The French producer Woodkid has released his brand new EP ‘I Love You’ featuring new takes on his latest single, taken from debut album ‘The Golden Age’.
The singer/producer and creative brain behind videos of Lana Del Rey and Katy Perry, is presenting a handful of brand new remixes including some established and new talent. As one of the most sought after vocal guests at the moment, Pharrell Williams (currently collaborating with Daft Punk and Robin Thicke) gives his spin on the new track. No guest vocals as such, but a brand new production, totally different from the original.
Closer to the original is the version featuring upcoming US rapper Angel Haze, whose lyrics blend incredibly well in the arrangement of ‘I Love You’.
What do you make of both versions? Let us know!
The original version, I Love You, is already available on Itunes as single or via the album ‘The Golden Age’. The EP with remixes are most likely to be made available for download worldwide later on. Woodkid recently announced a full on tour in France until February 2014. For more information . Watch the video for ‘I Love You’ below.
With a lead single entitled as ‘Cinderella’ we were kinda expecting Diana Vickers to come up with a modern twist to the fairytale as the storyboard for her video.
And guess what she totally nailed it. I guess, yes she was a bit limited in terms of the theme, but the singer has given the story a modern twist. No step mother and step sisters in sight, but a more self assured Cindy at the ball, kicking some ass with the prince, who turns out look a little geeky, rather than the hunky kind of guys, we tend to see in videos. (We can only applaud you for that, Diana!)
Talking about the track itself Vickers explains, “Cinderella is about being in love and not caring about any of the material things in life, just wanting to be with that one person you adore. It’s about being prepared to lose anything and take every chance to be with them”
‘Cinderella’ is the first new single and predecessor of a second album, (we’re seeing rumours it’s to be called ‘Music that makes the Boys Cry’ for the young singer, which is expected for release later in the year (autumn). The singer rose to fame in 2008 after appearing on the X Factor. Since she’s performed on the West End, has been involved in fashion and released in 2010 her debut album ‘Songs from the Cherry Tree, which showcased what an amazing talent she has for songwriting and crafting pop tunes.
Cinderella is no exception to that rule! The track is out July 21 through So Recordings.
Great news for all the Pet Shop Boys fans out there. The dynamic duo have posted a teaser from a new track called ‘Fluorescent’ online. The track is featured as one of the 9 tracks on the new album ‘Electric’, out on July 15th. It’s the first to appear on their own label x2 (via Kobalt Label Services).
On the new album the Pet Shop Boys are working together for the first time with Stuart Price, who’s in charge of the production.
Talking about the album and Stuart Price, the Pet shop Boys said: “’Electric’ is very much set on the dance floor. Our latest album often evolves as a response to our previous album and, whereas ‘Elysium’ had a reflective mood, ‘Electric’ is pretty banging! And working with Stuart Price on a studio album is something we have wanted to do for a very long time”. Set on the dancefloor, is definitely the way forward based on the teaser below:
The new album features 9 tracks of which 8 brand new Pet Shop tracks and a cover of the Bruce Springsteen track ‘The Last To Die’. BRIT award winning singer/rapper Example, is also making an appearance on the track as a guest vocalist on the track ‘Thursday’.
The suspense about the new album has very much been building up. In March this year, a teaser video for ‘Electric’ appeared online. The accompanying music for single ‘Axis’, which is the album’s opening track, very much helped. You can see it below:
The press release we received mentioned the new Pet Shop Boys album as an uncompromising collection of dance anthems without any comprimise by the Pet Shop Boys and judged by the clips above we are very excited!
The track listing for ‘Electric’ is:
1. Axis
2. Bolshy
3. Love is a bourgeois construct
4. Fluorescent
5. Inside a dream
6. The last to die
7. Shouting in the evening
8. Thursday (featuring Example)
9. Vocal
If you’re excited there’s even better news The Pet Shop Boys are currently undertaking the ‘Electric’ tour The tour is created in collaboration with Es Devlin (creative director/designer) and Lynne Page (stage director/choreographer), and has already received rave reviews when it debuted in Mexico in March. Fans of Stooshe can relax… 6 months after its original release date, the London trio are gearing up to release their debut album ‘London with the Lights On’ this coming monday. A creative and inspiring wave of sound and lyrics was originally mentioned as a reason for the push back. Something the girls felt was necessary especially as their third single ‘Waterfalls’, yes a cover of the TLC classic, was released under pressure by the record company and failed to impact the charts. Did they do the right thing?
Kicking off the album, is the brand new single ‘Slip’ which has a funky motown feeling, similar to the group’s UK chart topper ‘Black Heart’ (though slightly more uptempo). ‘Slip’ felt like a new start for the trio, and it does sound a lot better in their repertoire, comparing it to its predecessing singles. Their ‘Love Me’ ft Travvie McCoy, also good for a top 5 position in the UK charts, couldn’t be forgotten. These three signature tracks (we’ll forget ‘Waterfalls’ even exists) proof what an intriguing and exciting pop trio Stooshe are. And there is plenty more new material on the album that has the distinguished Stooshe sound, which would make up for great singles. Buzz single, appearing online end of November with a fantastic lyric video, ‘Hoochi Mumma’ is another great tongue-in-cheek example of pop music.
It’s great to see how the girls, decided to go back into the studio and add some brand new tracks to the album, despite having to see the original album being leaked on the internet. Yet for those fans we would still recommend to go and get this new album as the tracks which were on the leak have been tweaked. In all fairness, we preferred the original version of ‘One Man Music’, though the new version is definitely still single-material if you ask us; the same counts for ‘Your Own Kind of Beautiful’ which takes us back to the era of the Supremes. It’s heaven! The other new tracks include ‘Round 2′, ‘Put the Kettle On’ and the track which the girls boost about most themselves ‘Fly Again’ as it’s the most stripped back we’ll ever hear Stooshe. Just a piano and the girls. It’s breathtakingly beautiful.
In general, pushing an album back, is not the smartest move to do for your career or for fans who are really looking out for the album, yet the little break for Stooshe has been a blessing and shouldn’t give them a backlash. In fact more than ever has it made it possible for the group to deliver an outstanding debut album. Not to mention the showcase of a band who knows what they want, and do not want to compromise! And that’s girl power we haven’t seen since the Spice Girls. We very much approve! Thank you for Tongue in cheek pop music, Stooshe!
‘London with the Lights On’ is out on Monday May 27. Pre-order the album via Itunes or Amazon.
In exactly five weeks from now, Europe most favourite Tv show, the Eurovision Song Contest is back onto our screen. 39 confirmed countries will be battling it out, hoping they’ll be crowned the winner of this years contest, held in Malmo, Sweden. However, 33 have to make it through two semi finals where ten places are up for grabs in each before they can join the big five (Germany, France, UK, Spain and Italy) and last year’s winner and host Sweden. In order to get you prepared we have a look at what the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 has on offer.
Austria: Natália Kelly ”Shine”
Last year they were shaking their popo’s in the giant crystal arena hall in Baku, unfortunately not with the desired result, leaving the country in the semi last year. This year, the Austrians are hoping young vocalist Natalia Kelly can get them back to the final with her mid-tempo track ‘Shine’.
We’re not sure how this well fare. There’s a little Adele ‘Rolling into deep’ feel noticeable but, it doesn’t quite lift of to the uptempo level of the British songstress which is probably a good thing consider it might get slack for sounding too similar. Not a bad attempt but it leaves us a bit indifferent.
2013 is going so fast, and we can’t believe it’s a few months since we caught the attention of Swedish songstress Belle back in January.
Now a few months later, things are looking even brighter for this young lady, as her latest single ‘Sisters Anthem’ has now been remixed by the famous Soundfactory deejays making the sublime track an even bigger anthem.
The collaboration has been quite the success so far; leading the Swedish iTunes electronica charts, ‘Sisters Anthem’ is turning into a huge hit in the dance charts as well. All good news for Belle who’s currently touring Sweden.
Simple fact; This is just an amazing track, and it’s one of the several versions which can be found on two EP’s for Belle’s ‘Sisters Anthem’ which are both available on Itunes. Go and Grab it!
