Melodifestivalen Second Chance Round Meet the duelists.

We promised you last night the second of our four duels for Melodifestivalen’s Andra Chansen round. So here we are to present you with the next two hopefuls who will take part in this weeks show hoping to get one of the remaining two tickets to the grand final in Stockholm.

Again the actual duels have not been revealed yet so this is just an overview of two songs and how we think they would go if they were up against eachother. Tonight Dynazty is taking on Thorsten Flinck and his RevolutionsOrkest.

Dynazty are a Swedish heavy metal band, formed in 2007 , who are debuting at this years contest, although they did do one of the interval acts with MF icon Lena Philippson last year. their track ”Land of Broken Dreams” is not quite the heavy metal we would have had in mind, but it’s a pleasant rock song taking us back to something Bon Jovi, might have used as a little album filler. It’s instant, catchy and the chorus can be sung along easily.

Thorsten Flinck is a new face to Melodifestivalen, but outside the festival he’s an acclaimed actor, director and musician. He’s mainly known in Sweden for playing psychopaths in films and you can tell by how he performs the song ”Jag reser mig igen” (I Stand Up Again). It’s a lot more intimate then the rock of Dynazty, and feels a lot more emotional too. Thorsten knows how to sell the song to his audience, he has an amazing stage presence. As an actor, he also knows how to be the character in the song and that is probably where its strength is.

Our verdict: It’s a close call because we can appreciate both songs for their own reasons. However, Thorsten Flinck most likely has the advantage of having such stage presence and being able to perform his song with so much emotions, that we would be very surprised to see him and his orkest to leave in the first round already. So we give him the green light.

Do you agree? Have your say in the comment box.

Tomorrow we’re off for duel number 3.

New video for Gotye

While the rest of the world has totally fallen for the charms of ‘Somebody that I used to Know’, Gotye’s just released the video for his 3rd single of the album ‘Making Mirrors’.

Being one of the shortest cuts on his album, ‘Easy Way Out’ doesn’t dissapoint. The video, which has been in production for 9 months, is just sublime. It’s an average day in Wally’s life. Something he desperately wants to get out of.

Djee those Australians are good at producing great videos, after the multi-Kylie people in ‘Come Into My world’ this is another video and a song which should not be missed. Enjoy!

Mark Ronson & Katy B team up for the Olympics

In case you haven’t been on this planet for the last months, 2012 is London’s Olympic year which can only mean one thing; The British music industry getting themselves ready to sponsor the event and link several songs on the Olympic theme.

Among them, musician/Dj Mark Ronson who’s collaborating with Dubhouse/Garage Singer Song Writer Katy B on the Coca Cola Promo Olympic 2012 track ‘Anywhere in the World’.

”Move to the Beat” is Coca Cola’s slogan and with this track it won’t be hard to move your feet. It’s a very experimental track by Mark Ronson, a mixture of different beats topped off with the smooth vocals of Katy B. It’s unusual, addictive, anthemic and a bang of a chorus!

There is no release date available yet for the track, but we sincerely hope that ”Anywhere In the World” will be released in the near future. In the mean time, here’s how the track sounds! Enjoy!

X Factor Video Wrap Up

It’s raining X Factor news these days with some highly anticipated releases coming up. A quick overview.

Marcus Collins, the runner up from this years contest is currently promoting his first single ”Seven Nation Army”, followed by his first album a good week later. Now when we reviewed the video a few weeks back we said we weren’t sure but thanks to radiostation Gaydar we have discovered the Cutmore Radio Edit of ‘Seven Nation Army’ which has given it much more punch and is right up our street. We hope it’s included on the EP, so we can buy it straight away. So check it out the video for your own verdict!

While Marcus is up for his very first single, the runner up of the X Factor in 2010, the lovely Rebecca Ferguson, released her album ‘Heaven’ back in December and is ready to release the 2nd cut ‘Too Good To Loose’. It’s without a doubt the track which will come closest to her rendition of ‘Sweet Dreams’ on the X Factor. The vocals of Rebecca are simply outstanding, absolutely pure class. Not quite the video expected of the song, but it fits it amazingly. If you haven’t got it on pre-order yet, or bought the album I suggest you do.

And while we’re at it, we also have news of X Factor 2009 runner up, Olly Murs who told us a few weeks ago, he’s releasing ‘Oh My Goodness’ as the 3rd cut from his second album already ‘In Case You Didn’t Know’. Mr Murs,  who lost out on a Brit Award last week for ‘Song of the Year’, has now revealed the video for the jazzy swing-pop song which sees him making the Westfield Shopping Centre unsafe to find a girl he has laid his eyes on. Go Get’er Olly! Great vocals from Olly, and definately one of the highlights chosen for his new single, which will be out April, 1.

Enjoy!

K25: Kylie gives us ‘On A Night Like This’

We are really enjoying Kylie’s K25 project, which she set up for her 25 years in the music industry.

The down to earth diva has released the video for an orchestral version of her hit ‘On A Night Like This’ and wow we are really impressed by this. Absolutely stunning!

‘On A Night Like This’ was originally released as the 2nd cut from Kylie’s big comeback album ‘Light Years’  in 2000. The single was released 25 September 2000 and peaked at number 1 in Australia, number 2 in the UK and served several top 20 positions globally.

This is the second part of Kylie’s K25 project after the singer released a orchestral version of her hit ‘Finer Feelings’ , which was recorded in 1992.

More surprises are coming our way, Kylie’s announced so we are very very excited. *Hoping for a ‘CAn’t Get You Out Of My Head’ orchestra version*

Enjoy Kylie’s latest masterpiece!

Melodifestivalen’s Second Chance week commence

Last Saturday, the Swedish public were  invited for the final heat of Swedish Eurovision hopefuls in Malmo. Lisa Miskovsky and Danny ended up being the two finalists for the final in two weeks time while Lotta Engberg & Christer Sjögren and Dynazty were given the opportunity to retry for the final two tickets this week. Shock for many Eurovision fans as, double MF winner Charlotte Perrelli failed to qualify with her Abba-inspired ‘The Girl’.

And now the battle begins, because this Saturday the 8 acts who were granted a ticket to the ‘Andra Chansen’ round, will take the stage again and battle it out for two tickets, joining the other 8 finalists in order to represent Sweden in the Eurovision Song Contest. How will it work. 4 Duels will be taking place at a first stage, where two songs will compete against eachother. The winners of each duel will then again compete until two acts remain.

In order to warm you up a little bit, over the past few days we will present you the 8 acts including their videos. The duels we have made up here are not the actual duels taking place. During this week, the duels will be announced…

Duel 1: Sean Banan – ”sean den första banan” versus Andreas Johnson ”Love Light”

Up for some fun? Then Sean Banan is definately up your street. It’s a comedy entry, spiced up with the usual schlager ingredients and although it gives the impression from the very first notes that this is gonna be the worst ever, we soon saw the comical note of it all and have to admit that this is quite good and very well thought through. It brings the schlager to a whole new level and despite the naughty manner , Sean is so cute and a character who definately could bring a special atmosphere to the Eurovision contest. Yes the song is in Swedish, and we don’t understand a word of what he says but it is pure fun.

If you’re up for a perhaps a bit more of a traditional Eurovision song with a  lot of ‘la la la’ then Melodfestivalen veteran Andreas Johnson might be more your thing. The man has taken part so many times in the national round, that we’ll nearly need someone elses hands to count the attempts on. It’s a bit of a mash of different feel good songs but well performed by the singer. It’s cheerful, easy to sing along, in English and pleasurable. The big disadvantage we feel with Andreas Johnson is the many returns with similar sounding types of songs, which doesn’t come across as very innovative, and could well lead to a ‘Oh it’s him again’ and a early exit.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G8gnRl94qkE

If this was an actual duel, and we were to predit we would announce Sean Banan to the second phase, simply for the fun factor and genious song, over the talented singer who keeps coming back with a similar sounding song  (sorry Andreas)

What do you think? Do you agree?

Tomorrow we’ll announce the second duel…
