Heard of K-Pop but not sure what it is all about? Don’t worry we were the same, until one of our readers suggested we’d give it a go. So here we are.
K-Pop is in fact an abbreviation for Korean Popular Music and a vary varied musical genre which consists of dance, electronic, hip hop, R&B to name a few. The genre has in fact been popular in Korea since the early nineties, but the internet and social media have increased the genre’s popularity across the world massively. It’s not just the music that describes the K-Pop phenomena but also the fact that it grows into a popular subculture among teenagers and young adults around the world, resulting in widespread interest in the fashion and style of Korean idol groups and singers.
it shoulnd’t come as a surprise that we’ve chosen to present a band that is labelled as the “Revolutionary Group of the Korean Music Wave”: BigBang. G-Dragon, T.O.P, Taeyang, Daeasung and Seungri formed BigBang in 2006 and have since the release of their debu
t single ‘Lies’ gone to become massive stars in Asia, because of their unique sound and style. They are immensely popular and proved so by winning the MTV EMA ‘Best WorldWide Act’ in 2011 with a staggering 58 million votes. With a worldwide tour that goes to 5 continents, 16 countries, and 25 cities there’s no stopping these guys.
A new album is expected later in the year, but in the mean time these guys have released the video for their current single, the uptempo pop ballad ‘Monster’. It’s the perfect track to promote K-Pop as a very intriguing style of music. The lyrics are a good example of that because there’s a constant switch from Korean language to English and vice versa. It’s interesting and intriguing and given this band are the pioneers for the genre, their global appeal might as well continue to make K-Pop a dominant factor in the charts globally.
‘Monster’ by BigBang is out on Itunes.

Their other songs/singles that they released this year like Blue, Bad Boy, and Fantastic Baby are also really good songs. Bad Boy and Blue being my personal favorites.
