introducing Swedish singer songwriter Antonia Vai – Listen

AntoniaVaiNow we do like to introduce you to the alternative soul singer songwriter here on GloPop so we were absolutely delighted to find out more about this 24 year old supertalent from Sweden to all our readers:

Antonia Vai is a 24-year old singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Sweden who’s according to her biography is dynamically explosive one second, and the other emotionally stripped down thus excelling in combining metaphores and contradictions. Intrigued? Well you should be.

As a well-established artist on the music scene of Stockhom she’s also carrying the title of “bohemian soul diva”,though Antonia mentions herself she’s actually more  influenced by folk music. Her latest uploaded track on Youtube,’ You Know What I’m Like’ pretty much sums her up like that. You Know What I’m Like is the stripped back side of Vai  and we got incredibly excited about her.

2012 ‘s been a pretty busy year for her, as September marked the release of her debut album “Lovers and Prophets“, a tribute to forbidden love and sanctifications. Apart from the debut album, another record called “Dirt From When The Earth Was Flat’ was released which is an album consisting of gathered homemade productions.

Both albums are out on Itunes, so go and check them out if you can. Listen to ‘You Know What I’m Like’ below.

Ginger and the Ghost debut ‘One Type of Dark’ video – watch

GingerandtheghostNow over the past few years we’ve come to the conclusion that, down under they are pretty nifty in the music they’re doing. And while at times Ozzie artists are criminally overlooked in the global music scene, their industry is blooming with very fulfilling prospects;

Take Sydney based electropop duo Ginger and the Ghost e.g. who are bringing a completely new concept to the table; The innovative duo are uniquely weaving their way into the future of music by placing equal importance on visual and musical elements. They hand-make their own sets and installations for each show, using found objects, textiles and projections to create an atmosphere of fantasy, color, and movement, immersing the audience in their  dreamstate world.

Gearing up to release their first EP in early 2013, the first result of this interesting mix is the single ‘One Type of Dark’, which is according to lead singer Ginger an ode to her childhood imagination. Its witty, fresh and different and mostly important available worldwide to download via all the big music providers.

Get swept away by this very promising Australian act. A big act to watch out for this year. Watch the video below:

Got your copy of Robbie Williams new single ‘Different’ already? – Review

With a number one comeback single and album under his belt already Robbie Williams surely can say 2012 robbiewilliamshas been his year. After becoming a dad in September, a highly successful tour and new album the enfant terrible of the world of pop returns with a big ballad for the festive season.

It’s nice to see Williams chose for a ballad which reminds us of golden Robbie track ‘No Regrets’, which is can you believe already more than a decade ago released. The difference is that Williams has gone bigger and better by managing to give ‘Different’ the anthemic chorus, which firstly doesn’t get out of your head easily and secondly shows a much more serious side of Williams to his career.

Robbie, mate, can we have more of this please? ‘Different’ is out now as a single. The track also appears on Williams number one album ‘Take the Crown’. Watch the video below:

Watch the video for Ben Montague’s new single ‘Deep end’

Layout 1With ‘Love Like Stars’ we crowned Ben Montague as our new man crush and well Ben’s just reconfirmed that feeling with single number 3, taken from his debut album ‘Tales of Flying and Falling’.

” I’m calling out to the big man. Searching for a better plan. Cause i don’t want to walk alone no more” is how single number three, ‘Deep End’ sets the tone. Ben’s describing how he no longer wants to be allow in this beautiful piano ballad which sees him play the instrument in the sea for the video.

Highly tipped as one of Britain’s biggest singer songwriters for 2013, Ben will be releasing ‘Deep End’ on January 20, one day ahead of his debut album ‘Tales of Flying and Falling’.

The album which already spawns the singles ‘Love Like Stars’ and ‘Another Hard Fall’ has been written by Ben plus a host of notable contributors including Iain Archer (Snow Patrol), James Walsh (Starsailor) and Jim Duguid (Paulo Nutini) and was produced by David Eringa, who was involved with many of the classic Manic Street Preacher albums.

2012 has been a very succesful year for the singer, who’s appeared on the BBC breakfast show and had his previous single ‘Another Hard Fall’ featured in the Radio 2 A-playlist. With ‘Deep End’ Ben is making January 2013 already a lot more attractive.

ESC13: Those Who Didn’t Make It; Belarus – Switzerland and Belgium

eurovision_song_contest_2013_logo_by_lazaric-d51dij3Believe it or not, but not even 8 months after Sweden won the Eurovision Song Contest many countries have already started their quest for their nation’s hopeful in the 2013 event. Even though it’s still waiting for a final list of its participants, which according to various reports won’t have Slovakia, Portugal, Poland and Turkey included, the Eurovision season is full on.

As last year we’re not going to spoil the suspense by presenting you the winner songs, but we kick off with our ‘those who didn’t make it’ chapter where we present you some of the tracks, we think would have made a pretty good chance. We’re kicking off with Belarus who chose their entry last week, and finish with Switzerland and Belgium, who both made their choices yesterday and today.

Belarus: Daria – Catch Me Again

Last week, Belarus kicked off the Eurovision season with their Eurofest final. Belarus is one of the most intriguing countries when it comes to Eurovision as their selections seem to be rather interesting with most of the times the winner and its song being changed more than usual. However we don’t think that would have been a necessity if Belarus had chosen Daria to represent Belarus in Sweden with ‘Catch Me Again’. It’s old school, sixities and jazzy. Lovely lovely!

Switzerland:

Last night saw Switzerland choose its representative for the contest and going unanimously for the salvation army. Listening to the other candidates this fella caught our attention the most. With a track that sounds a bit like a Coldplay track, but sung by a singer with a voice timbre of Roch Voisine, Nicolas Fraissinet’s Lève-toi would have been a decent entry for Malmo in our opinion. A bit baffled this ended fairly low in the overall ranking. Never the less still very enjoyable.

Belgium:

Just barely a month ago, Belgian broadcaster RTBF announced the winner of their first season of the Voice, Robert Bellarossi would defend the nation at the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest. This morning during a radio show, the young performer presented three songs of which one was selected to be the entry. One of the tracks, coming from his latest album ‘Reste Toi’ has to be our favourite though as it’s catchy fresh and reminds us a little bit one particular Swedish pop star who went to third place back in Germany, now two years ago in the Eurovision Song Contest.

What do you make of these songs, and what were your favourites? We’d love to hear!
