One to Watch: Michael Kiwanuka – I’m Getting Ready

BBC Sound of 2012 winner, Michael Kiwanuka hasn’t quite reached the success of his predecessors Jessie J, Little Boots and Ellie Goulding and set the charts on fire with his single ‘Home Again’ but mark our words as the new single ‘I’m Getting Ready’ has good chances of changing it over.

While ‘Home Again’ sounded very at ease and peaceful, ‘I’m Ready’ gives Michael’s vocals the chance to shine more. The song sounds a lot more sincere then ‘Home Again’ and we feel that this could be the big breakthrough for the man since winning the BBC sound of 2012.

Michael has also released the video for the song, which you can find below. His single ‘I’m Getting Ready’ will be available for purchase on Itunes on March 11, while his debut album ‘Home Again’ will be available the day after on March 12.

Ones to Watch: StooShe – Love me Ft Travie McCoy

It’s been awfully quiet in the girl band camp, especially with Girls Aloud having a break,  no more Sugababes line up headlines (sorry girls), and the little muffins aka Little Mix embarking on the X Factor tour, one should wonder what has happened to the once strong Girl Power slogans of girl bands.  But fear no more… because a new girl group is on the horizon: StooShe!

Alexandra Buggs, Karis Anderson and Courtney Rumbold, three girls from East London, were signed to Warner Music Group in August 2011, releasing their debut single “Betty Woz Gone” on 28 October 2011. 2012 is expected to bring them their big breakthrough with their 2nd single ‘Love Me’ being launched on 5 March. For the song they are collaborating with Gym Class Heroes front man Travie McCoy.

‘Love Me’ is Funky Britpop at its best, having that fresh 60ies pop style, a style being really current at the moment. It’s incredibly catchy, includes some rapping (not only by Travie) harmonies are sublime, the production is amazing and everything blends in wonderful. They bring the kind of freshness the Spice Girls brought in 1996, and mixed their own style with some Sugababes & Misteeq swagger. No wonder the girls were put on the BBC sound of 2012 list.

Personally we don’t think they needed Travie McCoy to join them, especially since the girls rap themselves, but as a 2011 is still fresh in the mind, the trend of having a rapper to support your single will most likely still continue for a little while. So we forgive it them as a one off.

A great start for the girl band and they’ve set the bar for Little Mix very high. Let’s see who will win the battle of the girl bands this year.

Ones to Watch; Azealia Banks, Kelly Clarkson & Rebecca Ferguson

Hope you are all enjoying your saturday. Saturday is party night so I’ve been desperately wanting to post these songs to you all. Not a new release but this young lady, has not quite hit the fame yet as I was hoping she would. We’re talking about Azealia Banks.

This young lady is an American rapper, singer and lyricist from Harlem, New York has recently been signed to Universal Records. Just before she got signed she  released this great Dance tune ’212′ featuring Lazy Jay, and boy, this is so great. Was released on 6th December but didn’t get quite as far then a 75th place in the UK Singles Chart (Boohw!) It really is an amazing tune, so check it out because this is awesome to get you ready for a good Saturday night out.

’212′ might not have had the success it deserved, but the potential to be a massive star is there, as she ended up 3rd in the BBC Sound of 2012 list. So watch this space for more Azealia.

From Azealia to former Idols winner Kelly Clarkson, who’s back in the business. Quite a while ago, Kelly’s management announced the  release of ‘Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)’. Well good news for the dance fans because the 7th Heaven team have been granted permission to rework, the popsong in a fantastic club-tune. I can’t sit still on this one, it is so good. 7th Heaven knows exactly what they need to do to transform great popsong in absolute dance bangers! Listen to it below.  The release of the EP with mixes is expected for February. The original version of ‘Stronger’ can be downloaded via Itunes already.

And last but not least, it’s our very own Rebecca Ferguson who announced a few weeks ago that ‘Too Good to loose’ would be the second cut from her debut album ‘Heaven’. We all remember how Rebecca Ferguson rocked the stage during the X Factor 2010 edition doing the Dance anthems. ‘Too Good To Loose’ is probably the only song on her album that comes close to that genre and has now been remixed by Seamus Haji. We Love the original and this version. Absolutely breathtaking! The release date for ‘Too Good to Loose’ is expected somewhere in March. Definately go and buy it!

Get the weekend started!!
