What a year it’s been for Conor Maynard. 12 months ago, he was living in the seaside city of Brighton and now he’s one of the biggest British teenage singers with millions of fans.
As the third cut from his debut album, the teenager has chosen ‘Turn Around’, which features Ne Yo as next single. The track succeeds ‘Vegas Girl’ and ‘Can’t Say No’ and could well be the singer’s first number 1 hit in the UK, considering he’s teaming up with the man who’s the current number 1 in the UK with his latest effort Let Me Love You (Until You Love Yourself). In the video both lads show off their dancing skills and they are smooth. Amazing!
We’ve never wanted to compare Conor to that other superstar, yes Justin Bieber, and ‘Turn Around’ is exaclty why. At the young age of eighteen, Maynard has found his own edgy pop style rapidly, which makes him unique and already a serious contender to join the line up of all round great performers like Michael Jackson and Justin Timberlake.
‘Turn Around’ ft Ne Yo is set to be released as a single on October 7. The track is already available through Maynard’s debut album ‘Contrast’.
Carly Rae Jepsen is currently holding on to the UK number 1 for another week in the UK, but with a load of new tracks being out this week, will the Canadian superstar survive at the top for another week. We compiled a list of five songs which we think have potential to do very well in the coming months.
1. Conor Maynard – Can’t Say No
The UK’s latest heart throb finally sees the release of his very debut single ‘Can’t Say No’. We reviewed a little while ago. (see our archive) and we stick to our opinion that Conor Maynard’s track is very infectious and is without a doubt one of the tracks to keep an eye on this week. While many my describe him as the UK’s version to Justin Bieber, we actually see a younger Justin Timberlake in his music. Girls will love it, so will the boys so a number 1 is more than possible!
Orlando Higginbottom, better known under his stage name Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, or TEED, is an English Electro producer and Dj who’s not exaclty known for his daytime airplay, but is a common name for the listeners of BBC Radio 1′s Annie Mack & Nick Grimshaw shows. But that might change with the producers new single ”Tapes & Money” which flirts with the electropop world. ”Tapes & Money” is the second single lifted from his debut album ”Trouble” which is out in June. Worth watching for the flamboyant outfit, which makes the producer even more interesting. One to watch for sure!
3. B.O.B – So Good
The American songwriter/rapper B.O.B continues to have an impact in the charts, since his success started back in 2010. Lifted as the second single of his new album ”Strange Clouds”, which is out in about two weeks, the rapper releases So Good. The rappers sticks to what he’s good at, a rap with punch and a memorable, catchy chorus. The video was shot in Paris, so be sure to check that out. Currently B.o.B has already found his way to the charts and after a day of sales is already at number 8. Keep’em going!
4. Simple Plan – Summer Paradise ft Sean Paul
Springtime, which also means it time to start looking ahead at the summer. With that thought in mind, Simple Plan are teaming up with American R&B/Reggae singer Sean Paul and releasing the very fresh, campfire-sounding ”Summer Paradise”. A Year wouldn’t be complete without a summer hit, so we really have high hopes for this beautiful gem by the French-Canadian band Simple Plan. Perhaps it might be a bit too early for a summer hit, but we do hope if they don’t achieve their goal in one go, they get to do a rerelease at some point in a few months.
5. Kimbra – Settle Down
Kimbra, is probably for the whole world apart from Australia and home country New Zealand known as ‘the girl who sang at Gotye’s world hit Somebody that I used to Know’. Determined not to carry that name any longer is her very first solo single ‘Settle Down’. Been a huge hit in her home country, and with a global recording contract now under her belt, this lady is one of the uprising stars for 2012. ”Settle Down” is reinvented pop music, with a cheeky and sensual twist to it. You’re gonna love this one!

6. Marina & The Diamonds – PrimaDonna
We mustn’t forget Welsh songstress Marina & The Diamonds who sees her ‘Primadonna’ being released as well this week. Talking about reinventing pop music, Marina has proven with her first album how she was more than capable of being a very interesting individual to join the industry. With her new single, she continues to impress and ‘Primadonna’ is once again an infectious midtempo pop song which shows what a great artist this lady is. A must-buy!
All these singles are scheduled for a release this week or have already been released via iTunes. Enjoy!
Brighton- based Conor Maynard, is what you can call the British answer to Justin Bieber. After being discovered via Youtube, and being crowned the winner of MTV’s Brand New 2012 competition the young lad is releasing his first single ‘Can’t Say No’ in April.
While there is a comparison with Justin Bieber, they are both 18 and look cute Conor sounds very much like a young Justin Timberlake. His first cut ‘No One’ is drenched in big basses and sounds very much inspired by Labrinth and Tinie Tempah who include the dubstep and big fat basslines in their songs too.
‘Can’t Say No’ sounds slick and smooth and Conor will without a doubt make many girls heart beat faster.Enjoy the video!
‘Can’t Say No’ by Conor Maynard will be released by EMI on April 16.
