Marina and the Diamonds, announced a few weeks back to release ‘Power and Control’ as the next single from her album ‘Electra Heart’.
The new single, which was provided by its official video, has now also been treated to a few remixes. One of the producers, is renowned UK dance producer Michael Woods who’s given Marina’s next single a full electronic make over, making it ready to attract the crowds in all the clubs. Listen to it below:
While Michael Woods chosen to give the track an electronic make over, Manchester based dj Krystal Klear decided to go for a 9oies make over with pounding bass, punchy keys and the odd handclap.Listen to it here
It’s not yet confirmed whether both remixes will feature on ‘Power & Control’ EP. Which one is your favorite. Let us know!
Marina is currently touring the UK and set to make an appearance on T4 on the Beach on July 1st before embarking on her US tour in July and August.
‘Power & Control’ the new single, is out on July 9. For our initial thoughts on the track, click here
Marina Diamandis, better known under her stage name Marina and the Diamonds is on a high. Not only has her recent single ”Primadonna” achieved its best result in the charts since the singer came to the surface of the pop industry , her new album ”Electra Heart” is also one of the most anticipated and successful albums of 2012 so far, with several international releases still ahead.
The Welsh singer revealed during the release that ”Power & Control” would be the successor of ”Primadonna” and released today the video for the track as ”Part 6: Power & Control”. The new track kicks of with a haunting intro before it bursts into a nicely moist mixture of synthesizers and beats wrapped up in a nice pop jacket. Quite culinary there for a minute.
Marina is also delivering one of the best lyrics of the year by singing ” You may be good looking but you’re not a piece of art” so go start facebooking or twittering that one ladies and gentlemen…
The video sees the singer in a classy out black dress, playing some tricks on a rather hunky model. Clearly it’s all about Power & Control, which makes the video rather cliche but take the video away you still end up with a cracker of a tune, which has all the ingredients to become one of the most played hits this summer and hopefully gets Marina finally to that number 1 spot.
”Power & Control” is released on July 9 as separate single, the album version can already be bought through the album ”Electra Heart” via iTunes, Amazon, Spotify.
Monday is a big day for Welsh songstress Marina Diamandis. Her second album ‘Electra Heart’ is set to be released in the UK, with many more countries to follow in May. Many artists will agree that the second album is the most frightful to release, especially when the debut has been a huge success. It’s predecessor ‘The Family Jewels’ was certified gold in the UK and Ireland and released globally.
The singer teased work on the new album, back in november 2011 during a concert and revealed the album would very much be a concept telling the story of a cold, ruthless character who wasn’t vulnerable. Adding to that the singer said: ”It’s my take on female personality that include the Primadonna, Sue-Barbie-A, the Teen Idle and the Homewrecker. It’s a bit cringe, but I wanted it to be a way of personifying love and heartbreak. The whole campaign is pink and fluffy, it’s about love. I can never just make up a story, it has to be something that’s happened in my life”.
The album consists out of 12 songs all co-written by the singer herself. It has to be said that the writing skills of this lady are exceptional and her tone of voice is quite unusual for pop singers from the past few years. While there are some fantastic tracks on the album, there isn’t any consistency within the tracks, making it hard to be able to follow the story the singer wants to tell us. The opener ‘Bubblegum Bitch’ is a catchy rock pop song with funny lyrics (Sodapop pop here I come straight to number 1) sets a great tone for the rest of the album, but current single ‘Primadonna‘ who follows straight away, seems to be somehow misfitted. While the new single is a great tune, we believe there are other track which could have been a much better option as the lead for the new album. Take ‘Lies‘, the first ballad on the album which was produced by Diplo and has dubstep parts in it, or fan favourite ‘Homewrecker‘ which reminds us why we fell in love with Marina in the first place.
But not all is bad there are some true beauties on the album. Marina loves to experiment in music and that’s great. ”The State of Dreaming” is a great example. Introduced as an orchestral piece of music, the track transforms into a midtempo dancetrack, which is accompanied by violins. Her voice really stands out when she’s involved in bigger productions. The final song on the album ”Fear and Loathing” is worth a mention too. The intro suggests a hint to Madonna’s ”Like A Prayer” but takes a turnaround when Marina starts to sing, leading to a Enya-inspired ballad, which gets pumped up by a few electro-elements. Breathtaking.
There are a few tracks on the album, which you could describe as album fillers. although some of them lack that punch that’s needed to be put in the spotlight, especially those who succeed the big tracks like Homewrecker and The State of Dreaming. It’s a shame in that sense that promotional single ‘Radioactive’ was not included on the standard edition, as it would have been of a benefit for the album. For those who are waiting for the Deluxe edition, there the song will be included.
In all honesty, ”Electra Heart” is not a bad album and consists overall of a good amount of songs. The problem is however the tracklisting where we feel that some songs are taken away their beauty because they are overshadowed. So when you bought the album, add ‘Radioative‘ and start the shuffling.
”Electra Heart” the new album by Marina & The Diamonds is out now in Ireland via Itunes. The album will be available in the UK Monday April 30. A US release is schedule for July 2012.
It’s raining videos today. ”Primadonna”, the official lead single for Welsh songstress Marina and the Diamonds album ”Electra Heat” was revealed to the world yesterday.
Again, Marina doesn’t fail to dissapoint with this new electro-pop which switches from dancey verses to a slower chorus shows the versatility in the singer. In all honesty it takes a tad longer to totally fall in love with, as predecessor ‘Radioactive’ but the new Marina and the Diamonds is surely one of the few acts to keep an eye on this year.
The new album, ”Electroheart” which the singer has described as an album being mainly about female sexuality and feminism is currently available for preorder and will hit the shelves on 30 April 2012.
In the build up the singer is currently giving one of the songs, ”Homewrecker”, away for free on her website, including teasers of songs on the album. Last week the singer also revealed the playlist and official artwork.
The single ”Primadonna” will be released via itunes & Spotify on April 16.
Marina Lambrini Diamandis, better known under her stagename Marina and the Diamonds is a busy little bee. After announcing on twitter last week that she would give away a new track, Homewrecker, for free on her website she has now also revealed the full playlist and artwork for her upcoming second album ‘Electra Heart’.
The album, which is due on 30 April 2012, consists of 12 tracks includes the the already confirmed new single ‘Primadonna’. The track ‘Radioactive’ is not included in the list. Another track ”Homewrecker”, which Marina is still offering for free when you sign up on her website, is also one of the tracks making the cut for the playlist.
The cover of ‘Electra Heart’ reminds us a little of the leaked artwork for Leona Lewis ”delayed -again” 3rd album. It’s a close up photo of Marina’s face and its got this vintage Photo style, we love it.
‘Electra Heart’ is the follow up for ”The Family Jewels” which became a top 5 UK album in 2010. The tracklist for the album is as follows :
1 Bubblegum bitch
2 Primadonna
3 Lies
4 Homewrecker
5 Starring Role
6 The State of Dreaming
7 Power & Control
8 Living Dead
9 Teen Idle
