Katie Melua premieres Norwegian-shot video for ‘The Walls of the World’

When we reported last week that Georgian/British songstress Katie Melua was set to release her new single on September 17, no news was available about a video for the track.

Mystery solved because today the video, which was shot in the beautiful arctic city of Tromsø in the north of Norway, has been presented and uploaded to the singers Youtube channel.

The video consists of the beautiful Norwegian scenery and  film footage of Katie during her recent performance at Døgnvill Festival in Tromsø. A beautiful video that accompanies a very soothing track.

Released through Dramatico on 17th September, ‘The Walls of The World’ is taken from her latest album ‘Secret Symphony’. The track also serves up to her October Tour.

ESC 2012 Review – Part 12: Sweden & Georgia

Since 2008 the annual Eurovision Song Contest consists of two semi finalists which are responsible to deliver 10 qualifiers each to take part in the grand final where they join Italy, France, Germany, Spain and the host country, this year Azerbaijan. Over the past few weeks we’ve been going through the semi finalists. Today we have a closer look at the entries from Sweden and Georgia.

Sweden: Loreen – Euphoria

After a last years bronze medal with ”Popular” performed by Eric Saade, Swedish broadcaster SVT started its search in February for an equal or even better result in Baku. Having taken part in last years Melodifestivalen with ‘My Heart is Refusing Me’, Loreen was one of the first to be announced in this years selection with ‘Euphoria’. Winning her heat was enough for her to be bombarded as the one to beat and represent Sweden. And now she’s won the selection in her home country, her 90ies inspired dance track is THE entry everybody’s talking about and predicts to win. ”Euphoria” is very 9oies inspired dance track, made special by its intriguing performer. Loreen is a very charismatic lady and her Kate Bush inspired routine, gives the act a special edge. Surely it needs to be taken in consideration that the entry’s routine will have to be revamped, as the Eurovision Song Contest doesn’t allow any recorded backing vocals but all in all, things would have to go very very wrong for Sweden not to sail through this semi and eventually fail to score high in the final on May 26. Stockholm 2013 looks more than possible! Sweden’s last win dates from 1999, when Charlotte Nilsson, now known as Charlotte Perreli, won with ‘Take Me to Your Heaven’.

Georgia: Anri Jokhadze – I’m A Joker

One of the latest countries to join the Eurovision family is Georgia. The country made its debut in the 2007 contest and has on every occasion so far, apart from 2009 in which they withdrew, made it into the final. Hoping to do the same this year for the country is Anri Jokhadze, who won the national final with his entry ‘I’m A Joker’. Although completely bashed as the worst entry in this years contest by the Eurovision fan community it is not that bad really. Yes the English is absolutely atrocious, something Anri really will have to work on, but the track itself is a feel good uptempo disco song which could have easily been included in the setlist for a big musical a la Chicago. With a participant field mainly consisting out of ballads, and the track record the Georgians have, think they are very much in with a shot. Will be interesting to see how does one will fare. Georgia is yet to win the contest, but achieved its best result in 2010 and 2011 where it finished 9th.

Our verdict:

1 Ukraine

2 Sweden

3 Netherlands

4 FYR Macedonia

5 Bulgaria

6 Serbia

7 Croatia

8 Slovenia

9 Malta

10 Belarus

11 Portugal

12 Georgia

Next up are the entries of Turkey & Estonia.
