This enchanted, folk fairytale caught our attention after we saw it appear on television as the intro for a UK series (We won’t tell you which one) but we were very intrigued to find out more.
Turns out ‘Shut Eye’ is the new single for Stealing Sheep, a trio of Liverpudlians. Becky, Emily and Lucy play low-fi casio & yamaha synths that whirl in medieval patterns amongst 60’s style drones, along to hypnotic beats, spiraling whammy guitars and mystical harmonies. The result exposes a mythical and fairy atmosphere.
The ladies came out of nowhere last year with the release of their first single ”I am the Rain” and have since signed to record label Heavenly which has allowed them to release an 8 track EP called ”Noah & The Paper Moon”, alongside touring the UK with Emmy The Great.
The new track ‘Shut Eye’ could well be the surprise hit of the summer, partly thanks to Hollyoaks (there we said it) as this trio’s new single comes as a refreshment between all the dance tracks currently occupying the charts. It’s highly addictive, haunting and very enchanting. A must have for your i-Tunes collection.
Stealing Sheep will also be playing headline shows in June as well as numerous UK festivals like the Camden Crawl, Land Of Kings, Port Elliot, Standon Calling and Green Man.
The new single ”Shut Eye” is available now in iTunes, Amazon.
Why limit yourself to one talent if you have several things you’re good at? Indeed, French music video director, graphic designer, and musician Yoann Lemoine is not only the video director of stars as Katy Perry, Lana Del Rey, Taylor Swift and French dance duo The Shoes but he’s also know as the alternative indie musician Woodkid.
The great thing about being a producer of your own music and translating your thoughts in amazing videos is that you can be as creative as you want. Proven to have a very creative mind, the singers debut EP and single ‘Iron’ featured as the theme song for the video game Assassins Cree: Revelations E3 last year and is currently used in a commercial on the UK channels for the new Peugeot 3008 Hybrid 4.
Now in 2012, the singer has his second EP ready, which is the predecessor for a full album ”The Golden Age”, which he hopes to release in September. ”Run Boy Run” is a full of beats and dreams, dark, revealing and refreshing at the same time. The video itself, idea and concept by the man himself, is produced in black and white and is a cross between every child’s fantasy of being brave and explore adventures and the story of Peter Pan. Absolutely astonishing.
With the likes of M83 currently doing rather sublime in the charts, Woodkid is the next French musician to watch out for.
‘Run Boy Run’ is now available via iTunes or Amazon.
Marina Diamandis, better known under her stage name Marina and the Diamonds is on a high. Not only has her recent single ”Primadonna” achieved its best result in the charts since the singer came to the surface of the pop industry , her new album ”Electra Heart” is also one of the most anticipated and successful albums of 2012 so far, with several international releases still ahead.
The Welsh singer revealed during the release that ”Power & Control” would be the successor of ”Primadonna” and released today the video for the track as ”Part 6: Power & Control”. The new track kicks of with a haunting intro before it bursts into a nicely moist mixture of synthesizers and beats wrapped up in a nice pop jacket. Quite culinary there for a minute.
Marina is also delivering one of the best lyrics of the year by singing ” You may be good looking but you’re not a piece of art” so go start facebooking or twittering that one ladies and gentlemen…
The video sees the singer in a classy out black dress, playing some tricks on a rather hunky model. Clearly it’s all about Power & Control, which makes the video rather cliche but take the video away you still end up with a cracker of a tune, which has all the ingredients to become one of the most played hits this summer and hopefully gets Marina finally to that number 1 spot.
”Power & Control” is released on July 9 as separate single, the album version can already be bought through the album ”Electra Heart” via iTunes, Amazon, Spotify.
Remember a good month ago, we brought you news about the latest release of Danish group ‘A Friend in London’?
Fresh from supporting NKOTBSTB, the quartet, can already count on huge support from their home crowds, and their recent slot with New Kids On The Block and the Backstreet Boys has ensured a host of new fans internationally.
So very good news for the UK fans, as the group has confirmed the release of their single ‘Get Rich in Vegas’ on June 17. Read what we thought about the band’s single here.
The single ‘Get Rich in Vegas’ will only be available online.
Many artists will agree, album number two is the one that needs to impress the fan base and potential new fans, making it the most intensive album to produce in an artists career and have it live up to expectations, even for the 26 year old singer Paloma Faith. The singer released her new album ”Fall To Grace” on Monday May 28 as the successor of ”Do You Want The Truth or Something Beautiful” (2009). ”Excited and scared. It may mean I’ll have to change my whole life again if it doesn’t do that well” was Paloma Faith’s response to several questions about the expectations of the new album ”Fall To Grace”. Paloma shouldn’t worry. Currently on top of the midweek album charts, the singer is set to meet all the expectations with the new album.
If you thought, the 26 year old would be a one trick pony and continue to release material in the style of her first album, might have quickly changed his mind to a rather open attitude with the release of the album’s lead single ‘Picking Up the Pieces’ which not only showed a more mature Paloma Faith but only a fantastic story teller. It’s the story telling that is really vital here, as ”Fall From Grace” is really a compilation of 12 stories taken from Paloma’s life, wrapped up in a new stylish sound of the singer. Of the album, Faith stated “The new album has taken on a very cinematic mood. I am very excited to introduce my new sound into the world. Working with Nellee Hooper (Björk, Madonna) has been really inspirational.”Faith told Dom Gourlay of Contactmusic.com that Fall to Grace is a personal record about a period of her life. “Likewise, Hooper said that working with Faith reminded him of his work with Björk, saying “At lunch [Paloma Faith] sat and talked in such detail, as if every song was a short film, referencing everything from Chinese romantic cinema to Hip Hop.”
The cinematic feel to the album is very much noticeable judging its artwork reminding us you’re about to be treated in a lavish world of cinema and theater, accompanied by a stunning singer who’s distinctive vocals are instantly recognizable.
One of the highlights of the album is ”30 Minute Love Affair” which is also confirmed as the next single to come from the new album. Its style which is compared by many as a Annie Lennox meets Drive meets Cyndi Lauper synth pop number is a rather outstanding choice as the next single and a nice successor for the current single. The authenticity and strong selling points for ”Fall To Grace” are its outshining in its cinematic ballads. ”Just Be” is another of these cinematic ballads which is absolutely breathtaking and really shines because of its integrity and sincerity. The most theatrical song on the album? That’s most likely ‘Let Me Down Easy’ which has a really rawness to it. But is it all very dark cinematic? No not at all, ”Blood, Sweat and Tears” for example, is one of the outstanding tracks by its distinctive mixture of beats and synths and Paloma’s extraordinary voice. At times the comparison with Lana Del Rey is not far fetched, especially during tracks ”Let Me Down Easy” and ”Beauty Of The End”, but the comparison only last for a fraction, as this young lady is so recognizable.
In all honesty, Paloma has nothing to worry about in terms of her lifestyle. ”Fall To Grace” is a masterpiece and a great addition to the 2012 most anticipated, memorable and classiest albums released.
”Fall To Grace” is available now at every music retailer, including iTunes, Amazon. The album can also be streamed via Spotify.

This morning the New York based Scissor sisters have revealed the new video for their upcoming single ‘Baby Come Home’. The track is the third cut lifted from their album ‘Magic Hour’ which was released this Monday May 28th.
‘Baby Come Home’ is one of the highlights from the new album and succeeds the UK #12 single ‘Only The Horses’ and promo single ‘Shady Love’ featuring Azaelia Banks.
The overall feel of the video? Well expect to meet a lot of characters who for some reason can all be linked to beer. As for the song itself, in our review of the album ‘Magic Hour which you can find here, ‘Baby Come Home’ is probably the one song which comes closest to the TaDah area , the second album in the band’s repertoire.
The song ‘Baby Come Home’ and the album ‘Magic Hour’ are both available via iTunes, Amazon, Spotify.
