JLS Take on new mission to help beat cancer

MOBO and Brit Award winning group JLS and world leading charity Cancer Research UK have joined forces to re-launch the JLS Foundation this December, to coincide with Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. The Foundation’s aim is to help fund Cancer Research UK’s vital research specifically into cancers that affect children, teenagers and young adults aged 0-24 within the UK, to help bring forward the day when all cancers are cured.

The JLS Foundation is inviting people to help raise money by entering a special prize draw during December 2012, to win a unique boy-band experience for themselves or a loved one. The prize is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for one lucky winner and four of their friends to hang out with JLS in Spring 2013. They will get to watch the sound check of one of JLS’ mystery boy-band mates’ concerts, enjoy a Nandos lunch with JLS, choose their favourite JLS song which the band will personally serenade them with, and watch the mystery boy-band’s concert at the O2 in their very own private box with JLS for company and finish the evening in style with an overnight stay at the Trafalgar hotel! In the spirit of Christmas, prize entrants will be given the option to choose which four Facebook friends they will bring with them if they win, and share the invitations via the social networking site. The lucky prize winner will be announced Christmas Eve.

To be in with the chance of winning this truly unique prize and help fund vital cancer research, enter at www.jlsfoundation.co.uk. It costs just £1.00 to enter, and you can purchase multiple entries. You can enter by credit, debit card, Paypal, text or enter for free by post (details on the website). The promotion runs from 7 December to 21 December 2012. A donation from each entry will go directly to the JLS Foundation, supporting Cancer Research UK’s research into cancers affecting children, teenagers and young adults. (Terms and Conditions and age restrictions apply – see website for details and donation breakdown).

In addition to raising money for this much-needed research, the JLS Foundation is also providing healthy living advice for young people at www.jlsfoundation.co.uk. Marvin, Aston, JB and Oritsé are creating a range of fun videos encouraging young people to ‘live healthy’ and enjoy life – including showing off their skills in the kitchen making tasty and healthy juices, and working up a sweat in the dance studio in their usual cheeky manner.
The JLS Foundation will also have a dedicated helpline that goes directly through to Cancer Research UK’s cancer nurses, for any of their fans to call to find out more information about cancer – 0844 892 0127. The JLS Foundation Helpline is open between 9am and 5pm during weekdays.

Every step Cancer Research UK makes towards beating cancer relies on every pound, every hour and every person. As a collective force, the charity has helped double cancer survival rates in the UK in the last 40 years. That’s why the JLS Foundation has chosen to work with Cancer Research UK for the next two years to support its pioneering, life-saving research.

JLS are set to release their new single ‘Give Me Life’ on December 23. Listen to the track below:

Album Review: Evolution by JLS

The four lads of JLS are returning with a new album that will surprise many of their fans and critics. ‘Evolution’ is the fourth studio album of the band who became successful after appearing on the British TV show, The X Factor in 2008.

Since appearing on the show they have had a rather successful career, including numerous awards, singing the official BBC Children in Need song in 2011 and many more highlights. Long life expectations for groups are  rare but the remarkable thing for JLS is their genuine friendship and by the sounds of it, the chemistry these guys have is not to be stopped anytime soon.

‘Evolution’ is their best work to date and is pretty much the result of a radical style transformation. ‘Evolution’ is much more R&B than the guys current pop catalog. Not a big surprise considering they’ve been working with some of the biggest American hip hop producers on this album, such as The Runners [Rihanna, Chris Brown, Rick Ross] and Midi Mafia [Brandy, Frank Ocean] to legendary R&B hit-maker Rodney Jerkins [TLC, Kanye West, Beyonce].

Embrace yourself for a cracker of an opening tune, which will set the record about their evolution completely straight. ‘Dessert’ is pretty much straight in your face, oozes business and determination. With a little sample of Another Level’s ‘Freak Me’ (can you find where it is?) the track has got to be one of the contenders for a future single. Sounding like a Tinie Tempah production, this is an amazing start to the album.

Current single, the sleek, modern club song ‘Hottest Girl In The World’, which was produced by the courtesy of Bangladesh [Lil Wayne, Beyonce, Usher] brings a ‘Justin Timberlake’ feel to JLS, a style which sounds true to them.. If you thought ‘Hottest Girl in the World’ couldn’t be topped, watch out for ‘All The Way’ which is rightfully another fantastic club stomper. And don’t get us started on ‘Troublemaker’ (not to confuse with that other X Factor runner up, Olly Murs). There’s no stopping to potential hits on this album;

‘Evolution’ is pretty consistent and for the first time we embrace the fact that JLS have opted for a lot more uptempo tracks than mid-tempo or ballad tracks. Having said that, the few ballad tracks which have made the final cut, do sound amazing (without sounding cheesy) and can be classified as the the proper R&B ballads. The fresh sound from when the guys appeared with their first solo singles in 2009 is back and for the very first time in their career we feel they have literally arrived home and embraced the musical direction which suits them naturally: R&B.

‘Evolution’ the new JLS album is out November 5. Listen to a sampler of the album below:

Tracks You have to give a spin and download: ‘Dessert’, ‘Hottest Girl In The World’, ‘All The Way’, ‘Give Me Life’, ‘Troublemaker’

Now we’d been wondering what the boys of JLS have been up to but just as we wanted to find out, an email popped up with brand new info on the lovely fellas urging us to listen and watch the video for their new single ‘Hottest Girl In the World’. And what can we say … it’s super awesome.

Oh yes Ashton, JB, Marvin and Oritsé have only one message to share; they are the number one UK R&B boyband and no one is going to take that crown away from them. With a sound, Michael Jackson and Justin Timberlake have acclaimed world wide fame, JLS head into a new era of exciting pop music. ‘Hottest Girl in the World’ is the first attempt to that. The single which will be out on October 21st is the lead to their new album ‘Evolution’ which follows November 5.

This is definitely the direction we’ve hoped JLS would go for, and we’re so chuffed for them. Mark our words, with all the slick dance moves and the new music era, ‘Hottest Girl in the World’ is going to be huge!

Enjoy the video.

This week’s music news in a nutshell

It’s been a busy week in music land. A few bullet points.

Main news over the week has been Madonna’s smashing Superbowl performance with M.I.A, Nicki Minaj, LMFAO & Cee Lo Green. The queen of pop’s interval sees the amount of viewers triple during half time and figures on Youtube continue to rise. You can watch the performance here. Little incident however with M.I.A as she puts up her middle finger, which forces NBC to apologize towards its viewers. Madonna has been said not to be amused and M.I.A is apparently to be asked to pay a fine. In the mean time, the pre-order option for MDNA has made the album number 1 in 50 countries, while the new single ‘Gimme All Your Lovin’’ is steadily going to the top of the charts. Earlier this week, rumours were said that Britney Spears would appear on one of the tracks but today the news was called a rumour by Madonna’s management.

Plenty of news in regards to releases as well. 16 years have passed but now Brandy and Monica have released a new duet together, called ‘It all belongs to me’. It doesn’t quite sound as ‘The Boy is Mine’ but it is infectious. Jedward are taking part in this year’s Irish selection for Eurovision, with ‘Waterline’ and are the big favourite to represent the emerald isle for the second time in a row. Marina & The Diamonds had good news for their fans as well. The Welsh singer’s releasing her new single ‘Primadonna’ early April. Olly Murs has also revealed the title of his new track being ‘Oh My Goodness’. Lots of video’s as well this week with Ladyhawke, Alexandra Burke’s video. Boyband JLS did so as well for their Sports Relief 2012 single ‘Proud’. We’ll soon review the song here.

New albums are also under the way for Missy Elliot, Timbaland and Plan B. Ed Sheeran’s new EP will also be released on Valentines’ Day. Katy Perry rereleases Teenage Dream as ‘Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection’ and also announces the first single of the repacked edition called ‘Part of Me’.

Lady GaGa revealed during the week the first dates of her ‘Born This Way Ball’ tour preceded with the tour poster, seeing the stage of the performer in the shape of a castle. The singer is expected to go on tour for 2 years. Speaking of touring and , here she is again, Madonna has also given out the dates and cities of her new world tour, Australia is one of the countries who sees the artist return after 13 years,  Not embarking on a world tour yet, but Mel B and both Geri Halliwell haven’t ruled out a possible Spice Girls reunion. All the members of the band are planned to meet up later this month to discuss new exciting plans. We will just have to wait and see.

The Grammy’s are approaching and stars confirmed to perform are Chris Brown, Tony Bennet, Carrie Underwood and the comeback of Adele, who’ll be performing for the first time since her throat operation. Now that is something really exciting!

Lots to talk about and with the Brits and Grammy’s on their way, things will only get busier! Hooray!
