Lana del Rey is not only proving to be a master in creating wonderful music, no the lady is also putting her miles above every other artists with her cinematic videos. The singer has premiered the video for her fourth single ‘National Anthem’.
The video which is just under eight minutes, is introduced by Lana taking on the historical event of Marilyn Monroe singing ‘Happy Birthday’ to the American president Kennedy in 1962 and builds up to that fatal moment where the president got killed. Rapper A$AP Rocky is seen in the video as the late president, while Lana takes on the role of his wife Jackie. It’s pure nostalgic.
‘National Anthem’ is the fourth single to be released from Del Rey’s global chart debut ‘Born To Die’. The track will be released on July 9 and succeeds the singles ‘Blue Jeans’, ‘Born To Die’ and ‘Videogames’.
Remember a few months ago in our very first album battle between Maverick Sabre and Lana Del Rey, we said we weren’t too sure about the American singer songwriters album. Since then we’ve really started growing toward her music, and we take back completely what we said about her music being dull.
The singer has now released the video for ”Carmen”. Although it’s not yet confirmed to be the fourth single from her sophomore album ”Born to Die”, the video is one you definately shouldn’t miss. It’s basically a complilation of vintage scenes including skylines from New York mixed with Lana and her new videoclip-boyfriend footage.
The singer’s proven to release for high quality videos and this is no exception. For the Lana fans, good news because she’s not being killed either this time. Wey-hey!
As we mentioned it’s not sure yet whether ”Carmen” will be released as the new single, although recent tweets from the singer have led to that direction. If she does release it, we don’t mind, it’s another amazing track from her album.
You’ve had to wait for quite some time but now we’re back with the latest news in the world of pop. We’ve got much coming up.
Despite all her efforts of teasing the fans with snippets from her upcoming album, Madge’s new album has been leaked six days before its international release. Whether the album release will now be brought forward a few days in order to save the damage is not yet known. A real shame for Madge, do still go out and buy the album guys! Listen to one of the tracks on the new album here
Similar story for Lana Del Rey in a way, as the video for her latest single ‘Blue Jeans’ was leaked yesterday, forcing the star to bring it out today. The video sees the return of her mysterious tattooed bloke turning into a crocodile. We won’t reveal too much but the video can be seen here
Canadian superstar Justin Bieber has revealed on Twitter, what are supposed to be the lyrics of his new single ‘’Boyfriend’’ fuelling speculations with the non-beliebers (naughty!!), while Ed Sheeran has also confirmed to be releasing a fifth single from his debut album ‘+’. A video has been shot, but so far no word about the title of the single. The fifth single is the follow up for ‘Drunk’ which reached number 9 in the UK charts.
Engelbert Humperdinck, the 75 year old British crooner who’s taken the honour upon his shoulders to represent the UK at the Eurovision Song Contest, will be the opener of the grand Final on May 26 in Azerbaijan. The running order draw was held late morning, where all semi finalists and finalists were allocated their places. The last time the UK opened the competition, was the year Brotherhood of Mann won the competiton for the UK In 1976.

More comeback news: Singer songwriter Emeli Sande has praised the original sugababes with their sound and thinks the girls are in for a proper successful come back. An album of the original babes is expected in the autum. George Michael is back on track as well after suffering from pneumonia and is rescheduling his ‘Symphonica’ tour for the autumn. Diva Celine Dion on the contrary is back earlier. After having suffered from a vocal cord injury, the singer claims to be on the mend and she should be back in the studio by mid-April to continue recording her upcoming French and English new album.
And finally, the new single releases this week include Adam Lambert’s ‘’better than I know myself’’, Katy Perry ‘’Part of Me’’, Labrinth ‘’Last time’’, Marlon Roudette ‘’New Age’’, Will Young ‘’Losing Myself’’ and JLS sports relief single ‘’Proud’’. Missed the reviews for them? Just click on the links. JLS’s single will soon be added.
Last week we reported how Lana Del Rey had revealed a still from her new video for ‘Blue Jeans’ . And now the lady herself has premiered the video for the latest single from her album.
The video which is in black and white, sees the singer back in the company of her ‘Born To Die’ lover who turns out to change into a crocodile, lurking in the swimming pool. It’s again a very dramatic video and as in the ‘Born To Die’ video, stylish Lana dies, a theme which seems to be the red wire in most of her videos to date. We always say: Shouldn’t date a man who turns out to be a croc love.
Anyhow the song ”Blue Jeans” is stylish as ever and keeps up the trend of the stylish & outstanding material of this classy, inspiring singer songwriter.
Gorgeous Lana del Rey has teased her fans with a still from her ”Blue Jeans” video. The singer songwriter, who won last months Brit Award for Breakthrough artist, had announced earlier that the track which functioned as a B-side for her first hit ”Video Games” would be the 3rd cut from her album ”Born to Die”.
The still sees the singer embracing the same bloke from the Born to Die video, holding a cigarette. It’s part of a new video for the track, after the self-directed video of ”Blue Jeans” gathered a massive 10 million views to this date.
Earlier this week, the singer also revealed the artwork for the new single, which sees Lana lay on the beach in a stunning white dress. ”Born to Die” the album is the high praised big debut of the singer, and debuted at number 1 in seven countries including the United Kingdom and Australia.
”Blue Jeans” is the 3rd track lifted from the album, which already spans the 2011 hit ”Video Games” and 2012 released ”Born To Die”
Watch the original video for ”Blue Jeans” Below.
”Blue Jeans” is set to be released on April 8 via iTunes. The album ”Born to Die” can be purchased now.
We thought we’d spice things up a bit for you this week in terms of the album reviews and decided to let two new talents in the music industry battle it out for best album this week. In the right corner, American Lana Del Rey, who’s debut album ‘Born to Die’ was released January 30 2012 is taking on Maverick Sabre, who’s debut album ‘Lonely are the brave’ hit the shelves this week.
Who’s going to be the one we recommend to you…
Lots have been said about Lana Del Rey over the past few months since she’s released ‘Video games’ worldwide. We were quite intrigued and especially since topping the album charts with ‘Born to Die’ despite mixed reviews we believe she’s the ideal candidate to take up the gloves for this week’s duel.
Miss Del Rey offers us 15 tracks on ‘Born to Die’ and quite frankly, we were left unimpressed after a first listen. Her new single, ‘Born to die’ released a day before the album, has the honour to open the album. It’s a very heavy, overly dramatic song, and that’s more or less what the whole album is like in general; very heavy, very bombastic with very minor style changes which makes you wonder if Lana Del Rey is a very versatile artist or if she’s just playing it safe. We came to the conclusion, that it made the album also very forgettable as you won’t hear Miss Del Rey belt out, or use any emotions in her voice. This is a shame. ‘’Videogames’’, the song where it all began with, is without a doubt the best composition on the album, and while some other songs get really close, they don’t quite reach to the same expectations. There are flashes, songs as ‘Diet Mountain Dew’ where Lana tries to break with the bombastic feeling, unfortunately for her they are missing that final pinch of salt/pepper to make it really stand out. Songs like ‘Dark Paradise’, ‘Summertime Sadness’ and ‘Without You’ have all the potential to sound absolutely amazing, would they have been sung by the vocals of Florence + the Machine, but with Lana Del Rey they fall short.
Not all is lost for Lana’s monotone album, the more you listen to it, the more you start appreciating the songs you might have forgotten about. The best advice we can give you is to have at least a listen or 3 before a final, objective judgement of the album can be made.
In the right corner of our duel is quite an extraordinary young man who saw 2011 to be the start of what he hopes to be a long and exciting career in the music industry; Maverick Sabre. Born in Hackney, London but raised in Ireland, this young fella saw his album ‘Lonely are the Brave’ released this week, 6 February 2012 proceeded by two top ten 2011 singles ‘I need’, ‘Let Me Go’ and the currently to be released ‘No one’.
Maverick, who you could describe best as the love child of a secret romance triangle between Plan B, Daniel Merriweather and the sadly passed away Amy Winehouse, delivers a very strong musical debut filled with authentic, personal, soulful songs. Previously released ‘I need’ and ‘Let Me Go’ set course for a 58 minute trip of versatile old school soul. ‘Cold Game’ is a favourite as the overall feeling is very orchestral but sees Maverick mc’ing, something which he pulls of very well and remarkably suits the song. The MC style is repeated on a few tracks, another one being ‘Sometimes’, it shows how the Plan B inspiration isn’t far off. The new single ‘No One’ is full swing earworm destined to go high in the charts. There’s a varied mix of songs on the album, which doesn’t sound outdated or boring throughout. It’s very versatile as well in terms of mood. I can easily see myself listen to this while being at work, or just while I am sitting indoors in the evening with some candle light reading a book. A must buy.
Sooo the verdict…
While both are in their own league and both have a unique style we’re declaring Maverick Sabre and ‘Lonely are the brave’ the winner of this duel, as we find his album a lot more varied and interesting than the bombastic, monotone album of Lana Del Rey. Both are fantastic, but ‘Born to Die’ takes a little longer to fully appreciate than Maverick’s.
In order to celebrate Maverick’s victory, here’s the official video for his latest single ‘No One’. Both Maverick’s ‘Lonely are the brave’ and Lana Del Rey’s ‘Born to Die’ are available for download via iTunes.
