We’ve got a very strong feeling that Nigerian singer songwriter & harmonica player D’Banj might be providing us with the summerhit of 2012. His single ”Oliver Twist” has been picked up by BBC Radio 1 and is currently the Dj Best Thing by Scott Mils.
Building steadily on a reputation in the West through occasional performances, Dapo Daniel Oyebanjo rose to fame in his home country since 2005 and has released numerous singles and three albums, with a fourth on its way scheduled for a 2012-2013 release.
His succesful career has seen him win several music awards including the awards for Best African Act at the MTV Europe Music Awards 2007, Artist of the Year at the MTV Africa Music Awards 2009 and BET Awards of 2011 for Best International Act; Africa.
His big international tune is ‘Oliver Twist’, which is a mixture of afrobeat, hip hop & R&B on a Ibiza-inspired club track. Making references to Beyonce, GaGa, Rihanna, Jay-Z and Trey Songz, this is likely to be a huge club anthem with a Nigerian twist, in Ayia Napa and Ibiza throughout the summer.Probably one of the better summer hits, we’ve had since last years’ Loca People (Sak Noel) and ‘We Speak no Americano’ (Yolanda Be Cool vs DCup).
We haven’t quite figured out what to make of the video, so you can decide upon that. You might however notice Kanye West who’s making a camea in the video.
D’Banj single ”Oliver Twist” will be released in the UK on May 14th.
