Can James Arthur continue his reign over the UK singles charts after this festive season or are we getting a brand new number one? We’re about to find out.
But before we have a look at the top of this weeks let’s check out what else has been going on in the charts. With the festive season being officially over, it’s a slow chart with only a few new entries in the charts. Despite their impressive debut single, Rudimental’s new single ‘Not Giving In’ ft Alex Clare only manages to enter the chart at number 40. Not the best start, which can also be said for the christmas number 1, ‘He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother’ by the Justice Collection has a hard knock, falling 16 places to number 21. One Direction’s new single ‘Kiss You’ which is only been released officially today, drops 3 places to number 26. But it’s not all bad for the boys as ‘Little Things’ is still in the top 20 at 17 and ‘Live While We’re Young’ rests for another week on 39. It therefore joins Adele’s Skyfall, the Lumineers Ho Hey and Labrinth & Emeli Sande as non-movers in this weeks chart.
There’s better news for Dj Fresh, who’s collaboration with Miss Dynamite steps up a huge 10 places finishing in 22nd place this week. 2012 favourites Carley Rae Jepsen and Calvin Haris ft Florence Welch are lucky ones too, seeing their hits ‘Call Me Maybe’ and ‘Sweet Nothing’ go up again and reach a respectable 25th and 18th place this week. Same can be said for P!nk who’s receiving lots of love going up 8 places to number 14.
There’s also a few entries re-appearing this week, biggest being the latest single for Tinie Tempah and Calvin Harris. ‘Drinking From the Bottle’ at 15. Harris is in fact, alongside One Direction the only artist to have three singles in this week’s chart.
Also good news for Swedish House Mafia, who’s last track ‘Don’t You Worry Child’ enters the top ten again at 9. Their track is the 13th highest selling single of 2012. Even better news for Rihanna, who has two singles in the top 10; Diamonds at 8 and ‘Stay’ ft Mikky Ekko enters the top ten at number 7. Olly Murs just misses out on the top 5, while Taylor Swift enjoys her new found pop status at 5 with ‘I knew You Were Trouble’. Bruno Mars continues to do well as well and goes to number 4 this week. South Korean rapper Psy remains at 3 which leaves the battle right between Will.I.AM and James Arthur…. so what’s the verdict? James Arthur remains on top for another week, leaving Will.I.AM and Britney Spears at number 2. Congratulations to X Factor winner James Arthur.
