Album Review: ‘London with the lights On’ by Stooshe

Stooshe-London-with-the-Lights-On-2013-1200x1200Fans of Stooshe can relax… 6 months after its original release date, the London trio are gearing up to release their debut album ‘London with the Lights On’ this coming monday. A creative and inspiring wave of sound and lyrics was originally mentioned as a reason for the push back. Something the girls felt was necessary especially as their third single ‘Waterfalls’, yes a cover of the TLC classic, was released under pressure by the record company and failed to impact the charts. Did they do the right thing?

Kicking off the album, is the brand new single ‘Slip’ which has a funky motown feeling, similar to the group’s UK chart topper ‘Black Heart’ (though slightly more uptempo). ‘Slip’ felt like a new start for the trio, and it does sound a lot better in their repertoire, comparing it to its predecessing singles. Their ‘Love Me’ ft Travvie McCoy, also good for a top 5 position in the UK charts, couldn’t be forgotten. These three signature tracks (we’ll forget ‘Waterfalls’ even exists) proof what an intriguing and exciting pop trio Stooshe are. And there is plenty more new material on the album that has the distinguished Stooshe sound, which would make up for great singles. Buzz single, appearing online end of November with a fantastic lyric video, ‘Hoochi Mumma’ is another great tongue-in-cheek example of pop music.

It’s great to see how the girls, decided to go back into the studio and add some brand new tracks to the album, despite having to see the original album being leaked on the internet. Yet for those fans we would still recommend to go and get this new album as the tracks which were on the leak have been tweaked. In all fairness, we preferred the original version of ‘One Man Music’, though the new version is definitely still single-material if you ask us; the same counts for ‘Your Own Kind of Beautiful’ which takes us back to the era of the Supremes. It’s heaven! The other new tracks include ‘Round 2′, ‘Put the Kettle On’ and the track which the girls boost about most themselves ‘Fly Again’ as it’s the most stripped back we’ll ever hear Stooshe. Just a piano and the girls. It’s breathtakingly beautiful.

In general, pushing an album back, is not the smartest move to do for your career or for fans who are really looking out for the album, yet the little break for Stooshe has been a blessing and shouldn’t give them a backlash. In fact more than ever has it made it possible for the group to deliver an outstanding debut album. Not to mention the showcase of a band who knows what they want, and do not want to compromise! And that’s girl power we haven’t seen since the Spice Girls. We very much approve! Thank you for Tongue in cheek pop music, Stooshe!

‘London with the Lights On’ is out on Monday May 27. Pre-order the album via Itunes or Amazon.

A video for Jarell Perry & THURZ ”Keep livin” check them out here…

We wrote about Jarell a few weeks back, labelling him as the missing link between the likes of Usher and Drake, so no wonder we felt we had to past yet another great R&B jam from the singer, in the lead up to his ‘Simple Things’ LP in the spring.

This time we’re treated to a collaboration with LA based THURZ called ‘Keep Livin’. The track is taken of their brand new project called ‘Blood on the Canvas‘ which is to be released in a very short time . As for the track itself, Keep Livin’, is a mixture of rap provided by THURZ blended together with the silky vocals of Jarell. Pretty awesome if you ask us.

Check the video, which was released last week below:

Get your Whiskey tastebutton’s out for Jarell Perry, it’s fingerlickingly good… Listen here

Jarell PerryWe swear to have read somewhere that Ne-Yo wants the proper R&B ballads to return to the music charts in 2013. While we do appreciate a bit of Ne-You we actually think we have a much better candidate who can save the R&B ballad and bring them back to the top.

Though he’s been in the industry for quite a few years, we only found out today about US singer Jarell Perry, thanks to his management who thought we might like to hear his new single ‘Whiskey a Go Go’.

And you know what we’re glad they did, because the LA based singer songwriter’s material is fingerlicking good. The new single, an ode to his favourite drink, is very much in the line of Trey Songz and puts Perry right up with the line up of impressive R&B guys like Drake and even Usher. With impressive songwriter credentials for Fat Joe’s comeback single featuring Chris Brown, “Another Round.” already present it is only a matter of time before Jarell Perry gets his share of the worldwide fame.

To get us all excited, ‘Whiskey a Go Go’ can be downloaded for free from the following link. So go and check it out!

Rita Ora unveils Shine Ya Light Video

Rita Ora’s success story continues with the release of her next single ‘Shine Ya Light’ on November 5. So with only one week to go until its release, perfect timing for Ora to unveil the video for the track.

The video kicks off with a huge group of people awaiting the singer’s arrival. In the video, Rita takes us back to the streets of Kosovo, where her roots lay, surrounded by many locals and fans.

The beat-driven ‘Shine Ya Light’ is less pop than her previous attempts, but has a very R&B/Roc Nation feel to it. Personally we would have liked to see other tracks like ‘Radioactive’ being serviced as new single, but things would have to go very wrong for ‘Shine Ya Light’ not to do as well as its predecessors.

Rita Ora is set to perform on the X Factor’s result show this coming Sunday, ahead of its single release November 5. ‘Shine Ya Light’ is the fourth single taken from ‘Ora’ the debut album of the singer.

Whitney Houston ft R.Kelly’s ‘I look To You’ duet to be released November 5

The late Whitney Houston is set to appear in the charts for the final time. The entourage of the troubled singer, who passed away this year, have now confirmed a new version of ‘I Look To You’ is to be first single of Houston’s latest compilation album ‘I Will Always Love You’.

‘I Look To You’ featured on the singer’s most recent studio album titled, ‘I look to You’ which was released in the summer of 2009. For the occasion the track has been changed into a duet which features R&B singer R.Kelly, who’s also responsible for writing the track.

The original version of ‘I look To You’ was released as the first US single in 2009 and served as second single in Europe. The track didn’t do bad in the American R&B Bilboard chart where it reached a place in the top 20. It was criminally overlooked in Europe at the time, but lets hope the new version does the contrary.

Even though the new version has been published since September, an actual release date was never confirmed until now. ‘I Look To You’ ft R.Kelly is set to be released November 5. The compilation album ‘I Will Always Love You’ follows a week later, November 13.

Misha B unveils ‘Do You Think of Me’ Video

The X Factor’s very own Misha B has unveiled the video for her new track ‘Do You Think Of Me’ this morning.

The video sees stills of the singer, mixed with random individuals in different situations. The upbeat dance track is to be released early November, and has all the potential to do even better than Misha’s Debut single ‘Home Run’.

Both tracks are said to appear on Misha’s yet to be named debut album which is expected somewhere at the end of the year/beginning of 2013.
