Album review: ‘Fear & Freedom’ by Ricki-Lee

The Aussies have been gearing up for one of the most anticipated pop albums of the year, and the moment has finally arrived: Ricki-Lee, in a former life known as Ricki-Lee Coulter said goodbye to the music industry for a few years, but returned at the end of last year with a massive bang (Remember her catchy pop track ‘Raining Diamonds’?). Not only did she come back, looking like the twin sister of British royalty Kate Middleton but she promised to come back with an incredible sound and a new album called ‘Fear & Freedom’.

If Ricki-Lee already wowed the Australian audience during her Idols performance years ago in the second season of the Australian talent show, her new album ‘Fear & Freedom’ shows that the young singer, might just give Kylie a run for her money and finally allow her to claim the title of Australia’s new pop queen. Ricki-Lee’s singles ‘Do It Like That, which takes her in a way back to her ‘Sex and the City ‘ track ‘ U Wanna Little of This’ (a world wide chart success) and the ultra modern ‘Crazy’ (Drum & Bass in a juicy dance jacket is so cool) already proved why the new album was destined to be so popular.

But it’s the story behind ‘Fear & Freedom’ which really shows why this is such a strong album. “The album is all about unleashing your inner strength, rising above all the things that ever held you back and being free to do whatever you want to do in life…the power is in your hands…you just have to realise it and take control of it. So the cover has that really epic, empowered and almost superhero-esque feeling about it and I’m so in love with it!” Ricki said about the album + artwork. And that’s exaclty what this album is about. Don’t expect any ballads, because this is one album full of dance floor anthems; Opening track ‘Human’ sets the tone beautifully with a melody similar to Swedish songstress Agnes (Release Me), while ‘Burn it Down’ is an uplifting electro pop song, showcasing the amazing pair of lungs this young lady has.

One of the absolute highlights however is towards the end of the album. Jus when you think Ricki-Lee can’t amaze you anymore, she’s going the extra mile in the darker trance-inspired track ‘World Dissapears’. It’s darker, but its beats and catchiness are screaming global hit! This is not only screaming for a single release but if her record company plays it clever and would consider to share the Australian pop queen with the rest of the world, this is the track which could go all the way.

All in all, the wait for Ricki-Lee’s album has been well worth the wait. Presenting a collection of ten uptempo, but most of all uplifting tracks, Ricki-Lee has delivered a faultless, refreshing new pop album which should earn her without a doubt the title of Australia’s Pop Queen. Hail Ricki-Lee!

‘Fear & Freedom’ the album by Ricki-Lee, is out now in Australia and New Zealand only via iTunes. Check out the video of Ricki-Lee’s latest single ‘Crazy’ below:

Ricki-Lee ‘s gone Crazy

Ricki-Lee is turning into our most favourite Australian pop princess since Kylie Minogue, and while we are still disappointed singles ‘Raining Diamonds’ and ‘Do It Like That’ haven’t been released internationally, we have to admit we do love the fact that our Australian readers and pop lovers have welcomed her back by getting her tracks back to the top of the charts.

Yes Ricki’s done pretty well for herself, and if you thought the Beyonce-inspired track ‘Do It Like That’ couldn’t be topped, be ready to be prepared because new single ‘Crazy’ is beyond everything Ricki’s done before. It’s dancey, poppy and dubsteppy all combined and remixed in a massive oh so  Wowtastic new single, which is right up there for artists like Rita Ora.

Ora, is in fact one of Ricki’s favourite current singers (something she revealed during her twitchat on novafm yesterday) and with her new track ‘Crazy’ she definitely gives Rita a run for her money.

The new single ‘Crazy’ had its radio premier yesterday and will hit the local Australian market on Friday. While we wait for the proper studio version and clip to be released, underneath there’s a video of Ricki performing the track live. The video for the track is currently been edited and will also be revealed soon. The singer has also revealed her 3rd album ‘Fear & Freedom’ will get its local release on August 17.

Ministry of Sound, get this young lady back on board globally please!

Ricki Lee premieres video for ‘Do It Like That’

We’ve been warming you guys up over the last few weeks, with the announcement of the latest release of Australian singer Ricki Lee which we are very excited about. Last week we heard the club remix, which was done by Fred Falke, but now the pop princess has released the video for her new single ‘Do It Like That’.

And we’re very huuuuge fans of the new Ricki Lee sound. ”Do It Like That”, is the second single taken from the singers yet to be announced 3rd album and has all the potential to be a huuuuge summer hit globally. It’s all  very Beyonce, upbeat and summery. Think for a minute in the direction of ”Crazy In Love” with slicker dance moves, a brilliant voice and a hot uptempo beat. It’s totally brilliant; The remix already gave us high expectations and Ricki has proven not to dissapoint at all. What a great pop/R&B tune, ideal to kick start the summer!  As for the video, we love the different Ricki-Lee outfits (an absolute stunner she is!!!)  And then there are the slick dance moves, which Miss Ricki-Lee demonstates and totally owns!

” You want a taste of my apple pie” is one of the lines sung, and we’d say a huuuuuge YES to an international release, but so far there is no news known yet whether EMI, Ricki’s label, will release ”Do It Like That” globally. Since the video is available to watch globally, and Ricki released her hit ‘U Wanna Little of This’ under the Ministry of Sound dance label a few years ago (which earned her a huge hit) we hope this also means an international release date will soon be mentioned! Watch this space!

As for now enjoy the video!

‘Do It Like That’ with Ricki-Lee

Aussie pop princess Ricki-Lee, who could be an identical twin to Kate Middleton, is the next best thing out of Australia.

The days, when the singer appeared as one of the finalists during X Factor are long over. After a break from showbizz the lovely and ever so talented Ricki came back fierce with the single ‘Raining Diamonds’. Despite the song being a hit in Australia, the singer is yet to break through globally.

But 2012 could be the big turning point as the singer who’s best known for her single ‘Can’t Touch it’, which featured on the Sex & The City soundtrack, is back with a new track ‘Do It Like That’. Before she reveals the radio edit, it’s European Dj Fred Falke who’s responsible for the club remix of the track. And from the sound of it, this is going to be one massive track!

We are excited!
