Rihanna: Where Have You Been Video

In all honesty, we weren’t too impressed with the song choices of ‘You Da One’ and ‘Talk That Talk’ as new singles from Rihanna’s latest album. The singer can consider herself to be back in our good books with the release of ‘Where Have you Been’.

The track, which was written by Ester Dean, Lukasz Gottwald, Calvin Harris, Henry Walter and Geoff Mack, whilst production of the song was completed by Harris, Cirkut and Dr. Luke is without a doubt one of the highlights from the singer’s latest album ‘Talk That Talk’ and has all the potential to be as big as ”We Found Love”, which was also produced by Calvin Harris.

”Where have you been” is very much the perfect mix between house, pop and dance music. It’s a very infectious track which catches your attention immediately and doesn’t leave your mind for a while. ‘You Da One’ and ‘Talk That Talk’ hardly had an impact on the charts, but ‘Where Have you Been’ is right up our street and we think it’s one of those tracks that definately has the potential to be one of the most popular tracks of 2012 included in the end of year charts.

The video, which was shot in Los Angeles and directed by Dave Myers, sees the singer in exotic clothing, an acting as a jungle princess. The video is also Rihanna’s debut as a choreographer.

the single has so far been released in the US and Germany, while the UK sees its official release on May 28 via Itunes, Amazon and any other record stores.

Enjoy the video.

ESC 2012 – Those Who Didn’t Make it: Raffaëla – Chocolatte

It’s been quite a few busy weekends in the Eurovision world with many countries deciding upon their entries. A bit too many to have been able to rewatch all of them (and muting the winners) to give you an overview.

However we did find the time to have a look at what the Netherlands were upto last sunday. John Endemol was appointed very early after the contest of last year to organize ‘Het Nationaal Songfestival’. The man got quite a lot of bad press when he revealed his six finalists and the format, which was very similar to ‘The Voice’ format. Six candidates battles it out in 3 duels. The winners of the duels would then become the three superfinalists with one being the overall winner.

When we watched the non-winning performers back we just had to pick this one. Raffaëla is a former Idols/X Factor winner and has transformed herself into the Dutch Rihanna for the Dutch preselection. In her black skimpy nities, red pantys and flaming red hair, she seducively sings to us about ‘Chocolatte’. Fortunately for Raffaëla, the Dutchies didn’t think her ‘Chocolatte’ was good enough for a place in the top three and she ws knocked out in the first round.

Why do we like it so much? Well let’s be honest, it’s pure entertainment really. We would have loved Raffaëla on the stage in Baku, in her bikini, monokini, whatever… singing about Chocolatte as the charm of the contest is also the whole productions round the songs. Something which we would have thoroughly enjoyed with this lady.

Rihanna reveals the full version of Birthday Cake

it’s probably the most anticipated track of the singers latest album ‘Talk That Talk’. For her 24th birthday the superstar herself has now revealed the full version of the track ‘Birthday Cake’ with a rather odd choice of guest helping her out: Chris Brown.

The pair dated quite some time, until he was charged with sexual assualt against Rihanna now a few years ago. It’s quite difficult in a situation in which one of the parties has been sexually assaulted to comment on a new collaboration, so we have decided not to state any personal views on their decision and focuss on the music instead.

In all honesty, ‘Birthday Cake’ has never been one of our favourites, so we’re not completely overwhelmed by it. it’s a pretty standard House pop club track but we can see the full potential of it in its full length. It will probably after a few listens be catchy enough to succeed in its goal. The good side of it, is that it shows how Rihanna could well go the ‘Rowland’ and ‘Lewis’ way, and turn into a right Club Queen, something which her fans arround the world surely wouldn’t mind.

Rihanna is returning the favour by appearing on the Remix of Brown’s latest cut ‘Turn Up The Music’. Since their collaborations have leaked, both have been linked to being an item again, much to the dissatisfaction of many fans.

Enjoy.

Chris Brown presents ‘Turn Up the Music’ video

Three weeks ago we announced Chris Brown’s latest single ‘Turn Up the Music’. The man now has the video ready for the very first cut from his latest album.

As the track it’s all very clubby, dancey, lots of  women and slick dance moves. Chris looks incredibly smart in his suit. we can’t stop wondering if he’s trying to impress ex girlfriend Rihanna in his video (who he’s apparently seeing in secret shhhh…)

Back to the music all in all it’s very enjoyable. Not as good as he’s previous singles from the ‘Fame’ but still enjoyable.

Ones to Watch: Alexandra Burke – Elephant Video Release

Exciting times ahead for X Factor winner 2008 Alexandra Burke, after a few delays, the lady herself is returning with her brand new single ‘Elephant’. The track is the lead of her second album, which will be hitting us later during the year.

And it’s been well worth the wait. While it takes a few listens to appreciate the song, Alex has kept quiet for a while and reinvented herself from what she did on the ‘Overcome’ album and turning into a bit of a club queen. For ‘Elephant’ she has asked dj Erick Morillo to step in and they sure are in for a winner, here. It’s clubby, it’s bouncy a proper club anthem.

In the video Alex parties a la‘’Rihanna’’, raving with her mates in a factory environment, busting some good moves. And funnily enough it suits the song very well. We were kind of hoping for an elephant in the video, but well we can’t have it all.

Splendid comeback Alex!

‘’Elephant’ will be available to download on iTunes 11 March.

today’s Music in a nutshell.

Let’s kick off with another announcement of the BRITS. Olly Murs has been added onto the list performers for the annual BRIT’S held in the O2 arena on the 21st February. Other performers include Ed Sheeran, Adele, Coldplay and Rihanna. Besides performing Olly is also nominated for ‘Best song’ with ‘Heart Skips A Beat’. Battling it out against him in this category is boyband One Direction. They are warming up to win the award by releasing a campaign video asking everybody to vote. You can watch the video here. It’s nothing serious, but they’re young lads so it’s funny.

And from the BRITS let’s go to the Superbowl, where all eyes will be on Madonna’s comeback performance. It has now been confirmed that Madonna will be on stage with LMFAO. Madonna is about to release her 12th album MDNA preceded by the new single ‘Gimme All Your Love’ giving the Superbowl its debut. Will.I.Am, who signed LMFAO to his record label confirmed. Apart from LMFAO, M.I.A, Nicki Minaj and Cee Lo Green are reported to take the stage with the queen of pop. More information to follow soon.

While we’re at it, last night in Baku, Azerbaijan the allocation draw was held which determined which 37 countries would take part in the two semi finals, and which finalists were allocated to vote in those semis. A draw for the running order will be held at a later stage. This year sees the 57th edition of the contest being held with 43 countries taking part. The logo and artwork were also presented for this years contest being ‘Feel the Fire’.

Further along, 2012 has finally started seeing the bigger stars releasing more details about upcoming work. Labrinth, Chris Brown and Mia are amongst the main acts to confirm their new singles while miss Rowland has debuted the video for her latest US release ‘Keep it Between Us’.  Biggest news of all however is the offical confirmation of Abba releasing a new song called ‘From a Twinkling Star to a Passing Angel’, which will feature on a reissue of their final album ‘The Visitors’. We can’t wait!
