In all fairness when we heard X Factor runner up Marcus Collins, was releasing ‘Seven Nation Army’ as his debut single we quite frankly raised our eyebrows and thought”uh oh”. Gradually we started liking the Cutmore radio edit, which was in our opinion is lot better than the cover cover version of the classic White Stripes track and should have functioned as the official track rather than a remix B-side. The Liverpudian singer did however manage to score his first solo top ten single in the UK.
But we’ve forgiven Marcus, as his new track ”Mercy” is a lot more to our taste and a worthy second attempt to conquer the charts. The track which is also taken from the singer’s debut album, has June 3rd as the official release date and was co-written by the singer.
Sticking to a recognizable Seven Nation Army outfit, which suits him very well ( We don’t know anybody else who can pull off a bow tie, pink trousers and baby blue shoes) the singer is accompanied by a bunch of trumpeters and two vocalists in the video for his new song. Collins never denied to prefer doo wop as his future musical direction, especially during his time on the X Factor, and we’re glad to see he’s gone for that in ‘Mercy’. It’s slick, shows off Marcus’ vocal skills a lot better than ‘Seven Nation Army’ and has a catchy, funky feel to it.
All’s forgiven Marcus!
