Aussie superstar Gotye has announced ”Eyes Wide Open” as the successor for his smash hit ”Somebody that I Used To Know”. The latter is on its way to be the biggest hit of 2012, having topped the charts in no more than 15 countries and still going strong in the top tens.
The new track is also taken from his album ”Making Mirrors”, which has since its release entered the top ten in seventeen countries.
Be prepared to be wowed again ”Eyes Wide Open” as the song opens up a different side of the singer. The singer himself said about the track the following:
”I was out there with my old band called The Basics—and Winton is home to this phenomenal thing called the Winton Musical Fence, which is a large fence made out of metal strings stretched between posts and you can pluck it and play it with all sorts of different materials – it makes these amazing bass sounds so I sampled some bits there in 08 and they made it into the first single I put out off the new record called Eyes Wide Open”
The single was originally released mid-october 2010 in Australia as the lead up to the new album ”Making Mirrors” and is now expected to premiere June 4 in the UK.

The song is also available via the Making Mirrors album, out now. If you missed our review for the album you can find it by clicking here.
Last year and so far 2012 have been a fantastic year for New Zealand singer songwriter Kimbra. After being signed to a record company, and featuring as the guest vocals on Gotye’s ‘Somebody I Used to Know’ lovely Kimbra is set to show the world she is more than just a guest singer and ready to take on the world.
We’ve been following Kimbra for a little while already and have heard her first album ‘Vows’ already since it was released in New Zealand and Australia last year, and know what she’s capable of so we’re really thrilled to see she’s landed a record deal in the US as well. As a teaser to the album ‘Vows’ which has an international release in May, the singer has now released an EP ‘Settle Down’ to warm us all up.
Kimbra is refreshing and brings a new elan to pop music. Her sweet vocals glides gently along jazz and electronic elements which melt together in a charming and distinctive pop sound.
A young talented lady who’s definately worth keeping an eye on.
Her EP ‘Settle Down’ consists of 4 tracks, ”Settle Down”, ”Cameo Lover”, ”Good Intent” and the new track ”Limbo”. It’s the video for ”Good Intent” which we have chosen to show you today. Enjoy!
The ”Settle Down – EP” by Kimbra is now available via iTunes.
While the rest of the world has totally fallen for the charms of ‘Somebody that I used to Know’, Gotye’s just released the video for his 3rd single of the album ‘Making Mirrors’.
Being one of the shortest cuts on his album, ‘Easy Way Out’ doesn’t dissapoint. The video, which has been in production for 9 months, is just sublime. It’s an average day in Wally’s life. Something he desperately wants to get out of.
Djee those Australians are good at producing great videos, after the multi-Kylie people in ‘Come Into My world’ this is another video and a song which should not be missed. Enjoy!
Making Mirrors is the second album for Belgian/Australian Wally Debacker, better known as Gotye. The singer is currently aiming high in the music charts with his ‘Somebody That I used to Know’ featuring guest singer Kimbra, having reached the number 1 in native Australia, Belgium, Ireland and many more.
The right time for Gotye to release his new album ‘Making Mirrors’ worldwide. It’s a 12-track album with a mix of different fantastic alternative songs, all instantly radio-friendly.
Gotye is at its best when he can experiment with sounds. The result is 12 different tracks, which makes it difficult in a way to find a red wire through the album and gives it a pot of different substances. It’s not only the sound of the different songs, but also the wide vocal range, Gotye masters. In ‘Easy Way Out’ e.g. he mumbles his way through the song, against the upbeat tempo of the song, up until the chorus where his stronger vocals take the lead and remind me of the Beatles. On another track ‘I Feel Better’ he opens up his vocal register for a smashing motown feel good song.
The lyrics are another asset of Gotye’s capabilities which captivate you as a listener. Writing from his own personal experience and sharing mistakes he’s made, are the key for his success. Best example on the album is his smash hit ‘Somebody That I used to Know’ which features the guest vocals of Kiwi singer Kimbra, who’s voice suits Gotye’s massively well. In the song we hear about a failed relationship, from both perspectives. The great features about this song are the fact that both Gotye and Kimbra can express their rage and angst so well in their voice. ‘Eyes Wide Open’ has a similar kind of tone of mood, whilst it deals with the struggles of everyday life.
The most alternative pieces on the album are without a doubt, ‘Don’t Worry We’ll Be Watching You’ and ‘State of the Art’, which consists out of different sound clips all brilliantly put together over a well harmonised backing track with Gotye’s vocals on top of it. Perhaps not the most radio friendly songs of the bunch but definitely the most creative ones, which showcases Gotye’s true talent.
‘Making Mirrors’ is a must have album. Not only are the 12 tracks absolutely brilliant, Gotye is the act for 2012. Leaving this album aside would be a shame. ‘’Making Mirrors’’ is now available for pre-order on Itunes and will be available for download on February 13.
