In tribute of the Spice Girls… Our musical version. Read and listen to it here!

What a weekend it’s been. The Olympics have drawn to a close and provided us with a massive high light during the closing Ceremony: The return of the Spice Girls! Yes it was definitely worth the wait and while it was a one off (for now), we are extremely looking forward to see their musical Viva Forever in November. So what a better way to commemorate the biggest girl band ever, by letting the writer in ourselves think about our own Spice Girls tribute musical, accompanied with the  ultimate Spice Girls Spotify playlist!

Act 1: Our story kicks off on the melodies of ‘Let Love Lead the Way‘ where we meet five different girls, all about to enjoy the life in the big city. As they all appear in the station, their ambitions surface: They want to be huge superstars.

In act 2: The five girls have each found a room in the city, and are gearing up to take part in an audition for a girl band: Money is tight, so they are determined to go for it, and sing ‘Never Give Up On The Good Times‘ on their way to the studio, where they start talking. The talent scout asks all five of them to show him why they should be the five members. In order to impress him the girls perform individually a medley of songs, that show a particular trait of their character ( ‘Not such an Innocent Girl /Tell Me/What I Am /I Turn To You) Impressed by the vocals of the other girls and afraid she might lose out,  the last girldemonstrates a cheeky, outspoken side in her with a song called ‘Shake Your Bootie Cutie‘. So the scout agrees these five are the girls he’s looking for. The girls are hugely excited and so pleased they swear they’ll always be there for each other and look out for themselves (Say You’ll Be There‘)

Act 3: But things take for the worse when the five don’t get along with their manager, and decide to part with him. It takes some seriously guts to do so, so the girls pump each other up with a smashing rendition of ‘Do It‘, followed by a rough version of ‘Wannabe’ in which they express their friendship.  A mash up of several versions of ‘Wannabe‘ follow until the girls are being approached by a music producer who wants them to record the song. They are reluctant at first but do it in the end and it turns out to be a huge hit. So time for a huge party. The Girls sing and dance while getting dressed, and on their way to the club. (My Strongest Suit/Saturday Night Divas/Holler) Once their in the club they show the other attendants and the boys what girl power really is like by singing ‘Who Do You Think You Are’, especially when one of the guys gets a bit stalky with one of the members. But it turns out this girl does fancy the boy too, and ‘2 Become 1‘ sets the mood for a romantic part of the story.

Act 4: With such rapid success, and hardly any time for themselves, the girl and her lover have a massive argument which affects the whole group, so the girls take a moment back to visit their mums at home, and tell them how much they appreciate what they have done for them. (‘Mama’) Even though they’d like to stay a bit longer with their families all girls have to get back together and during their performance of ‘Stop’ it daunts to them that they have been neglecting their families and that ‘Too Much‘ time together as friends could be disastrous.

Act 5: So the inevitable happens, and one girl really can’t take the pressure anymore and alone in her room, she sings the track ‘Walk Away‘ in which she expresses she can’t  go on like this any longer. As a reply the four other girls, clearly hurt, sing ‘Goodbye‘ to her before it daunts on them they can’t continue either as there is someone missing and decide to split up, looking back at the good times (‘Viva Forever’).

Act 6: Then the play jumps to three years later where the five girls bump into each other in a coffee shop by accident, talking about what happened. Even though the situation is awkward at first, they agree to talk about what happened and after a very long discussion, they forgive each other. One of them, then comes up with the idea to reform one last time, introducing the idea by singing ‘The Moment You Believe‘. Not really sure what to do they each go home to think about it. Once they are in bed, they know they just have to do it, and they start singing ‘Headlines’…. But the real conclusion follows with a smashing glittery performance of ‘Spice Up Your Life‘.

Just our two little cents. If you like it and want to hear what it would sound like, simply listen to our playlist on Spotify, which you can find here.

And of course if you haven’t seen it yet, here’s the Olympic performance of the ladies of girl power for you to watch: Enjoy!

StooShe – Black Heart Video

London based girl trio, StooShe blew our socks off a few months ago with their infectious ‘Love Me’. The track, which reminded us very much of the Spice Girls track ‘Wannabe’, featured the guest vocals of Travie McCoy and reached a respectable 5th place in the UK charts.

The group, which consists of members Alexandra Buggs, Karis Anderson and Courtney Rumbold have now released details for the successor of ‘Love Me’ and the lead for their debut album ”Swings & Roundabouts”, which is released by Warner Music today.

”Daddy I’ve fallen for a monster… he got a black heart…” are part of the lyrics of the genuine heartfelt ballad ”Black Heart” which oozes soul, glamor and emotions. It’s a very strong ballad, which is different from the usual pop girl ballads as it shows off the vocals of the three ladies without getting the impression the members are in a competition among themselves to prove which one has the strongest vocals . In that sense it made perfect sense for StooShe to correct interviewers in calling them a girl band. They are not, they are three brilliant vocalists, who carry ‘Black Heart’ throughout the whole song and that’s why StooShe is so refreshing.

Alexandra, Karis and Courtney look amazingly glam in the new video, and are without a doubt three very strong singers with a distinctive voice, each one of them interpreting the lyrics of ‘Black Heart’ in their very own, emotional way.  ”Black Heart” breathes an authentic yet refreshing 50/6oies feel, celebrating leading female groups such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Marvelettes which are being remembered in the video which looks absolutely brilliant and makes us want to go and rent ”Dreamgirls”.

Simply astonishing!

New single ‘Black Heart’ is out today  June 17 via Itunes, Amazon and any other record store.

T.G.I.F Song … You better don’t stop movin’

Another week has passed by hoorrah!!! Time for the weekend, hope you all will have a fab one. The song that gets us in the weekend mood this friday is this little gem from 2001.

Rachel, Jo, Hanna, Tina, Paul, Jon, Bradley and Lee, rose to fame in 1999 as S Club 7, a mixed boy and girlband made up by Simon Fuller (ex-Spice Girls manager). The band rose to fame after appearing in their own series, Miami 7, which included many hits of the first album ”S Club”.

Over the five years the band were together they had 4 UK No.1 singles, one UK no 1 album, hits arround Europe, Asia, Latin America and Africa. They recorded a total of four studio albums wich went on to sell over seventeen million albums woldwide. While their first album, S Club, had a very strong 1990′ s pop sound, their musical approach changed more to dance and r&b, which is heard in their final album ‘seeing Double’

The song we’ve selected for you is their hit single ‘Don’t Stop Movin’ which saw that popppy sound being replaced by a more dancey sound.

After five years, the band disbanded but good news for some of the S Club 7 fans as some of the members Jo, Paul and Bradley have reunited and are currently touring the UK and later Australia performing hits from the band. You never know it might inspire the other 4 to join them as well.

Enjoy the video!

Thank God It’s Friday: Sporty time!

hey hey everybody. Hope you all had a great week and are ready for the weekend! We’ll take you back to the summer of 2000 with our track. Back in 1996, 5 girls conquered the world with their big characters, massive shoes and brilliant pop music: The Spice Girls.

After their world domination things turned a bit quiet for them in 1999, when they announced they would no longer perform as a group for a while to focuss on their own solo-projects. And it was Sporty Spice who took the lead in her solo career and is the only Spicey to date who is still current in the music industry, having released 5 albums through her own independant label.

Her biggest hit in Europe was back in 2000 with the dance anthem ‘I turn To You’ which reached number 1 in many European countries. Perfect for a night out, or even for the gym.

Since 2000 Melanie released 4 more albums and is currently promoting her latest album ‘The Sea’ in Europe and the United Kingdom.

This week’s music news in a nutshell

It’s been a busy week in music land. A few bullet points.

Main news over the week has been Madonna’s smashing Superbowl performance with M.I.A, Nicki Minaj, LMFAO & Cee Lo Green. The queen of pop’s interval sees the amount of viewers triple during half time and figures on Youtube continue to rise. You can watch the performance here. Little incident however with M.I.A as she puts up her middle finger, which forces NBC to apologize towards its viewers. Madonna has been said not to be amused and M.I.A is apparently to be asked to pay a fine. In the mean time, the pre-order option for MDNA has made the album number 1 in 50 countries, while the new single ‘Gimme All Your Lovin’’ is steadily going to the top of the charts. Earlier this week, rumours were said that Britney Spears would appear on one of the tracks but today the news was called a rumour by Madonna’s management.

Plenty of news in regards to releases as well. 16 years have passed but now Brandy and Monica have released a new duet together, called ‘It all belongs to me’. It doesn’t quite sound as ‘The Boy is Mine’ but it is infectious. Jedward are taking part in this year’s Irish selection for Eurovision, with ‘Waterline’ and are the big favourite to represent the emerald isle for the second time in a row. Marina & The Diamonds had good news for their fans as well. The Welsh singer’s releasing her new single ‘Primadonna’ early April. Olly Murs has also revealed the title of his new track being ‘Oh My Goodness’. Lots of video’s as well this week with Ladyhawke, Alexandra Burke’s video. Boyband JLS did so as well for their Sports Relief 2012 single ‘Proud’. We’ll soon review the song here.

New albums are also under the way for Missy Elliot, Timbaland and Plan B. Ed Sheeran’s new EP will also be released on Valentines’ Day. Katy Perry rereleases Teenage Dream as ‘Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection’ and also announces the first single of the repacked edition called ‘Part of Me’.

Lady GaGa revealed during the week the first dates of her ‘Born This Way Ball’ tour preceded with the tour poster, seeing the stage of the performer in the shape of a castle. The singer is expected to go on tour for 2 years. Speaking of touring and , here she is again, Madonna has also given out the dates and cities of her new world tour, Australia is one of the countries who sees the artist return after 13 years,  Not embarking on a world tour yet, but Mel B and both Geri Halliwell haven’t ruled out a possible Spice Girls reunion. All the members of the band are planned to meet up later this month to discuss new exciting plans. We will just have to wait and see.

The Grammy’s are approaching and stars confirmed to perform are Chris Brown, Tony Bennet, Carrie Underwood and the comeback of Adele, who’ll be performing for the first time since her throat operation. Now that is something really exciting!

Lots to talk about and with the Brits and Grammy’s on their way, things will only get busier! Hooray!
