StooShe – Black Heart Video

London based girl trio, StooShe blew our socks off a few months ago with their infectious ‘Love Me’. The track, which reminded us very much of the Spice Girls track ‘Wannabe’, featured the guest vocals of Travie McCoy and reached a respectable 5th place in the UK charts.

The group, which consists of members Alexandra Buggs, Karis Anderson and Courtney Rumbold have now released details for the successor of ‘Love Me’ and the lead for their debut album ”Swings & Roundabouts”, which is released by Warner Music today.

”Daddy I’ve fallen for a monster… he got a black heart…” are part of the lyrics of the genuine heartfelt ballad ”Black Heart” which oozes soul, glamor and emotions. It’s a very strong ballad, which is different from the usual pop girl ballads as it shows off the vocals of the three ladies without getting the impression the members are in a competition among themselves to prove which one has the strongest vocals . In that sense it made perfect sense for StooShe to correct interviewers in calling them a girl band. They are not, they are three brilliant vocalists, who carry ‘Black Heart’ throughout the whole song and that’s why StooShe is so refreshing.

Alexandra, Karis and Courtney look amazingly glam in the new video, and are without a doubt three very strong singers with a distinctive voice, each one of them interpreting the lyrics of ‘Black Heart’ in their very own, emotional way.  ”Black Heart” breathes an authentic yet refreshing 50/6oies feel, celebrating leading female groups such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Marvelettes which are being remembered in the video which looks absolutely brilliant and makes us want to go and rent ”Dreamgirls”.

Simply astonishing!

New single ‘Black Heart’ is out today  June 17 via Itunes, Amazon and any other record store.

Ones to Watch: StooShe – Love me Ft Travie McCoy

It’s been awfully quiet in the girl band camp, especially with Girls Aloud having a break,  no more Sugababes line up headlines (sorry girls), and the little muffins aka Little Mix embarking on the X Factor tour, one should wonder what has happened to the once strong Girl Power slogans of girl bands.  But fear no more… because a new girl group is on the horizon: StooShe!

Alexandra Buggs, Karis Anderson and Courtney Rumbold, three girls from East London, were signed to Warner Music Group in August 2011, releasing their debut single “Betty Woz Gone” on 28 October 2011. 2012 is expected to bring them their big breakthrough with their 2nd single ‘Love Me’ being launched on 5 March. For the song they are collaborating with Gym Class Heroes front man Travie McCoy.

‘Love Me’ is Funky Britpop at its best, having that fresh 60ies pop style, a style being really current at the moment. It’s incredibly catchy, includes some rapping (not only by Travie) harmonies are sublime, the production is amazing and everything blends in wonderful. They bring the kind of freshness the Spice Girls brought in 1996, and mixed their own style with some Sugababes & Misteeq swagger. No wonder the girls were put on the BBC sound of 2012 list.

Personally we don’t think they needed Travie McCoy to join them, especially since the girls rap themselves, but as a 2011 is still fresh in the mind, the trend of having a rapper to support your single will most likely still continue for a little while. So we forgive it them as a one off.

A great start for the girl band and they’ve set the bar for Little Mix very high. Let’s see who will win the battle of the girl bands this year.

Gym Class Heroes – Ass Back Home ft Neon Hitch

While ‘Stereo Hearts’ ft Adam Levine (Maroon 5) did not quite reach the biggest tops of the charts here in the UK, Gym Class Heroes are teaming up with British singer song writer Neon Hitch and give it another try in order to crack it on this side of the pond.

‘Ass Back Home’ or non-explicit title ‘Get Yourself Back Home’ follows the same collaboration style, in line ‘Stereo Hearts’ although the melody sounds a little bit more rocky this time and suits the vocals of Neon Hitch much better than ‘Stereo Hearts’ did with Adam Levine.

The video sees Travie & The Gym Class Heroes being on tour, while Neon Hitch is waiting at home for Travie to return. There is clearly something wrong in their relationship and all Neon wants is Travie to get his ass back home. But will he?

The beat is really addictive, and I would say that the chorus, sang by Neon Hitch, really lifts the song and gives it that extra push to make it memorable enough. Whether ‘Ass Back Home’ will make it completely at the top of the music charts, remains to be seen but it’s a proper attempt. We wouldn’t mind.

‘Ass back Home’ is the second cut lifted from the album ‘Papercut Chronicles II’ and is expected to be available for download on February 19.
