German-born Turkish-Dutch singer Atiye Deniz is already a household name within the Turkish music industry but things are about to change with the singer’s first international single ‘Bring Me Back’ ready for official release tomorrow July 27.
The past few year’s the singer’s mainly been focusing on home country Turkey to build upon her career, and now that she’s one of the biggest stars there, having released three successful Turkish albums to date, it’s time to take it global with the rather charming English pop song ‘Bring Me Back’ that sounds dreamy and features a few ethnic elements like drums.
Atiye’s silky smooth vocals suit the song very well too, so all in all this is a track she most definitely should be proud of. So can it bring her international success? We certainly hope so, and if not, there are rumours she’s more than happy to give Eurovision a go for Turkey. ‘Bring Me Back’ could well be a nice introduction to that adventure.
‘Bring Me Back’ is officially released tomorrow July 27. Watch the video below:
Since 2008 the annual Eurovision Song Contest consists of two semi finalists which are responsible to deliver 10 qualifiers each to take part in the grand final where they join Italy, France, Germany, Spain and the host country, this year Azerbaijan. Over the past few weeks we’ve been going through the semi finalists. Today we have a closer look at the entries from Turkey and Estonia.
Turkey: Can Bonomo – Love Me Back
Turkey failed for the first time since the introduction of the semi finals in last years contest. Making sure this doesn’t happen again, TRT the country’s broadcaster internally selected 24 year old Turkish singer Can Bonomo in January as their representative for Baku. In comparison to the more recent rock entries from Turkey, the singer fuses world music with pop. His single ”Love Me Back” is the perfect example of that; combining his similar-sounding Justin Timberlake voice on a poppy melody spiced up with traditional Turkish elements. The singer has released one album so far in Turkey last year called ‘Meczup’ which consisted of jazz, pop and rock songs. It was also the title of his first single ‘Meczup’. There’s always room for an ethnopop song, and the Turks are known to come up with a qualitive, decent entry. Well done for that. Turkey has won the contest once, in 2003 when Sertab Erener defended her country in Latvia with ”Every Way That I Can”.
Estonia: Ott Lepland – Kuula
As the only most succesful Baltic state to date, Estonia once again decided to choose their representative through the Eesti Laul format. The format for the show consisted out of two semi finals, from which 5 finalist would be chosen. Those ten would then again perform in the live final and the top two would go ahead to the superfinal. In the end, Estonian pop idol 2010 winner, Ott Lepland won in January the superfinal and will represent the country with his Estonian ballad ‘Kuula’ (Engl: ‘Listen’). After the batch of four uptempo songs, ”Kuula” is a well performed, emotional ballad which in our opinion is one of the dark horses for this years competition. If Ott performs it as well as in the studio version, and the stage performance is right, this could be another one which could dominate the contest leaderboard on May 24 and May 26. Estonia has won the contest once in 2001 with Tanel Padar & Dave Benton & 2XL ‘s ‘Everybody’. Since the introduction of the semi finals in 2004 however, the country only managed to qualify twice for the final.
Lets have a look at whats happening in Europe at the moment in terms of number ones.
And funny enough we came across this song by Brazilian Michel Telo called ‘Ai se eu te pego!’ it’s currently a number 1 in Brazil, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, Poland, Italy, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Suriname, Turkey and many other countries.
It almost feels like summer again. Get those shorts out, put the barbee on, go wild with the sun creme. Oh yeah! It’s incredibly catchy too, even though I don’t understand a word Portuguese. What do you think of the song? Get involved!!!
