Usher’s got us a teeny tiny bit confused this time. After confirming he would release the Swedish House Mafia produced track ‘Numb’ last week, he’s now announced ‘Dive’ as his latest single as well, describing it as his ‘R&B single’. Both tracks are respectively singles number 4 and 5, taken from his album ‘Looking For Myself’ and succeed the singles ‘Climax’, ‘Scream’ and ‘Lemme See’.
Proper move one can say, as his current studio album does provide enough material for numerous hits. Quite pleased with both songs, as each one has their strong sides, even though we would have preferred ‘Euphoria’ as first choice for the uptempo one (but who are we).
No specific release date for both although both are available through the album, so perhaps not really a necessity, unless they’ll both come with a bunch of remixes (which we doubt we’ll happen).
The charismatic singer songwriter Usher returns to the world of music with his most anticipated and refreshing work so far. The new album ‘Looking 4 Myself’ is currently being streamed for free via i-Tunes, a few days ahead of its release on June 11.
With a series of well known producers including Max Martin who’s responsible for current single ‘Scream’, The Neptunes, Swedish House Maffia and Diplo who received praise for his production on ‘Climax’, the project is THE most anticipated r&b album of 2012. The smash hit ”Climax” and newly released ”Scream” witness of a new era for the singer, which sees R&B appearing in a melt pot with beats, dub step and synth pop intertwining.
‘Can’t Won’t Stop’ opens the album and immediately sees that combination of a heavy dub step intro nicely flowing into the typical Usher R&B Sound. In the chorus, you can already imagine the amount of ‘Oh Ooh’s for a reworked single version. Brilliant track to start the album with, which has Will.I.Am as one of its producers. The track is followed by the club banger ‘Scream’ and the uber classy ‘Climax’ which sees Usher singing in falsetto, bringing him back into the spotlight and right to the top of the charts. ‘I Care 4 U’ and ‘Show Me’ continue in a similar style even though both tracks were in the hands of a different producer. Despite a similarity to ‘Climax’ , the tracks don’t really match up to the standard of the album so far and come across as a ‘Been there done that before’ pair of album fillers. Luckily the tracks, ‘Lemme See’ ft Rick Ross sees the return of a falsetto Usher and motown inspired ‘Twisted’ ,which has an addictive drum beat featured, make the first part of the album a great success so far.
The second part of the album opens with the beautiful timid R&B ballad ‘Dive’. For all you hopeless romantics this is THE ballad to get for sure. But don’t despair you ballad-haters, the second part of the album sees Usher experimenting at full speed; ‘Sins of My Father’ and ‘Looking 4 Myself’, which shares the album’s title, are the best example of that. The latter is produced by Australian duo Empire of The Sun, giving it thus such a distinctive Empire sound which is daring and refreshing for a relatively urban artist like Usher. For the Empire fans who weren’t sure of Usher, this will be the track that converts them. ‘Lesson For The Lover’ is the longest track of the album delivering one of the best synth pop ballads we’ve encountered so far.
Not only has Raymond IV, Usher’s real name, had a hand in co-writing all the songs, but the line up of producers on his seventh studio album is absolutely brilliant. A special mention for Swedish House Maffia, who are responsible for two tracks to be found towards the end of the album; ‘Numb’ and ‘Euphoria’ (not to be mistaken for the single of a certain other Swedish artist). In all honesty ‘Numb’ is probably the most radio friendly of the two, yet ‘Euphoria’ sounds a tad more intriguing and innovating, leaving Usher with quite a decision to decide which track to choose as single. Time will tell we assume.
Usher promised us a new take on R&B and has not failed to make us enjoy the new album. Yes there are a few album fillers but overall the album has all the potential to turn into a massive hit seller for 2012. Tracks to watch out for are ‘Can’t Won’t Stop’, ‘Scream’, ‘Climax’, ‘Dive’, ‘Looking 4 Myself’ and ‘Euphoria’.
The new album Usher ‘Looking 4 Myself’ is out on June 11 via iTunes/Spotify/Amazon in standard and deluxe edition (4 extra tracks). The standard edition can be streamed for free via iTunes today only. Watch an album preview of the new album below
We mentioned it last night in our news wrap of the day. Usher has got a new single out which he previewed last night with a 30 sec teaser.
The singer, who’s currently scoring a huge hit with his Diplo produced track ‘Climax’, has now released the full version of ‘Scream’. American fans can download the song right away. The UK and the rest of the world should follow shortly.
The track, which reminds us very much to previous hit ‘Dj Got Us Fallin’ in Love Again’, is the second cut taken from the singers 7th album, which is due for release on June 11, and is called ‘Looking for Myself’.
It’s been another busy day in the world of pop music. A quick overview of the latest events.
Nicki Minaj has returned to Twitter. The singer had left the application after one of her fans kept leaking material from her latest album. The singer decided to get back on twitter, as her fans were missing her. The singer has also been teasing the video for ‘Starships’ by saying it might be too saucy for tv. Does that mean Nicki, there won’t be a video after all? To add up to the confusion the singer recently released a video for her catchy track ‘Beez in the Trap’ although it’s not confirmed whether its serviced as the next single from Pink Friday:Roman Reloaded.
Beyonce has been named the ‘most beautiful woman’ by the readers of People’s Magazine. The star’s beaten Sofia Vergara, Charlize Theron, Michelle William and royalty Duchess Kate Middleton in the. The singer responded with the following statement ””I feel more beautiful than I’ve ever felt because I’ve given birth. I have never felt so connected, never felt like I had such a purpose on this earth.” The singer released earlier this week ”End of Time” as the latest single from her debut album ”4”.
”Call My Name” singer Cheryl (yes that Cheryl) has spend the morning at BBC Radio 1 to do some promo for her latest single, which was produced by Calvin Harris. The track was originally presented to new kid on the block Rita Ora, but was refused by the team. Cheryl teased a reunion with Girls Aloud, as it’s been three years since they were together and also teased throughout the day a short 30 sec clip of her video.
Alexandra Burke on the other hand has officially unveilled the video for her video ‘Let it Go’ which sees the singer partying on the London Underground. Partying is also what the Wanted are doing in the video for their Example-written new single ‘Chasing The Sun’. The video was filmed in Los Angeles and can also be found on our blog.
More X Factor participant news as Paije Richardson is the latest X Factor contestant to preview his first attempt to win over the British public. The 2010 X factor participant, who lost out on Cher Lloyd, has been raising money to record his first album via fan contributions on the Pledge Music website. The first single to be released is ”Bang Bang” and it’s absolutely amazing. (Learn and Watch Marcus!). Listen to the track below. Last week Aiden Grimshaw, fellow X Factor contestant also released his first single ‘Is This Love’.
Since Monday Steps are back with their Sky documentary which sees them prepare for their tour. Expect lots of Lisa crying (so we’ve been told). From what reunion to the other. The Beach boys are back with a new song called ‘Thats Why God Made the Radio’ it’s the lead for the band’s new album which is out in June. The band are currently touring arround the US which sees them play 37 dates.
And last but not least, Usher has teased his fans with the successor of his hit ”Climax”. The snippet below belongs to the next single ”Scream” which is also from the singers 7th album ”Looking for myself” out on June 11th. The singer will release the full version tomorrow in the United States. David Guetta also confirmed today to have collaborated once again with the singer, and teased the tune is absolutely crazy.
A few weeks ago, we revealed the new single for Usher, ”Climax” which is being produced by Diplo. It’s a new direction for the R&B singer songwriter who’s been enjoying success recently, due to his collaboration with David Guetta on ‘Without You’.
The R&B singer has now revealed the official video for his single, which is due for release on April 16. The video shows lots of close ups of him, while he’s also following his girlfriend as it turns out she’s cheating on him with some other bloke.
We love the new direction Usher has gone into and can not wait for the release of the single and a new album.
Justin Bieber turned 18 the other week. Wooo! And what a better way to celebrate then teaming up with Far East Movement and let the world know that from now on he will live his life the way he want.
But… We feel slightly underwhelmed by what ‘Live My Life’ has turned out to be. We’re all for changing musical direction and enjoy our dancey club tracks but there is a reason why many dj’s choose to go for female vocalists instead of male. ‘Live My Life’ is the perfect example why simply because, Bieber’s voice doesn’t blend with this song in a particular good way. While singers as Usher and Ne-Yo have the right tone colour suitable for dance tracks, Justin’s sounds very flimsy and too autotuned. So Sorry Justin! And what’s with the ‘On the Foor’ sample during the verses? They are so 2011!
An official release date for ‘Live My Life’ has not been given yet for UK iTunes. We’ll keep you posted.
